Have just found this thread and am thinking i should start planning for Christmas....have always given my daughter PJs and slippers on C.mas Eve and like the idea of a hamper but lots of the items people have listed go in her stocking. She is now fifteen and it gets harder each year to find small, fairly cheap bits to put in. If anyone has any ideas to help me along this year that would be great. :)
Looking forward to it already but not even sure where i will be spending it yet, better start making a list. :o

    Hi Rhi80!

I discovered this a couple of years ago and am glad I did as my DS loves his christmas eve hamper! He's nearly 7 so I guess a bit easier to buy bits for.

    However.... a 15 yr old girl.....hmmmmm......

    A few ideas.....

    Xmas Pjs

    Xmas slipper socks/slippers

Some lovely bubble bath bar from Lush (they usually do 'Christmas Kisses' which smells all cinnamon-y - yum!)

A christmas DVD - there's a list on this thread (there's some that she might like, like 'love actually' or 'The Holiday'.......

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2739892

A sachet of 'spiced apple' - warm apple juice with christmas spices...

    http://www.christmastimeuk.com/display_details.php?code=066-09086&cat=10509&pg_src=10509&src_text=Stocking-Fillers-and-Toys

A special glass to put it in - like a mug, but glass (if you know what I mean!!!)

    Or snowman soup.....

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1189961

Some sweeties/popcorn to have while she watches her dvd.

A sock monkey - noone is too old for those! And you could make it yourself - even if you arent crafty!!

    Hope that helps a bit.....:)

dont know if I am in wrong place but after some help making mincemeat for christmas

I am in the middle of making Mincemeat - it says Candied Mixed Peel - I have Italian Mixed Peel and later it says soft brown sugar I have both Natural Molasses Sugar and Demerara Sugar

Which do I use and do you think it will be ok - do I need to do anything to my italian peel to make it candied or will it be ok

    Help very much appreciated

    Thanks Elaine

    Hi Elaine,

    I hope this helps.

Sugar - "Soft brown sugar" means that it's light coloured and light tasting. So demerera would be ideal. :D You could even get away with golden caster sugar or anything else that is a golden coloured sugar. Molasses and treacle etc are very dark and strong tasting. I've only really come across them for things like gingerbread.

Peel - Mixed Peel and candied peel are the same thing, I think. Candied peel (the old fashioned version) is airdried lemon/orange/grapefruit peel coated in sugar (think of glace cherries but with peel.) Most supermarket mixed peel is small cubes of something similar. The best I can suggest is for you to open your bag of Italian Mixed Peel and check that it is dried, sugared peel and go from there.

Have you tried Netmums for recipes? They have lots of foolproof cakes and Christmas recipes aimed at busy mums. I'm planning on trying their mincemeat and xmas pudding recipes - last time I did Delia's it nearly killed me! I'm afraid I can't post the links yet as I'm a new user.

Well I was engaged. Until we separated on 8th March :( Here's hoping that having a break will help us solve all our problems. Until then I'm a single mum on a tight budget :(

A journal jar is a great idea, you fill a jar with 100 questions and include a notebook and pen. She can answer these questions in her own time and it will give her a little record of who she was when she was 15 :)

Have you got a Primark? They have great things in there for teens like really inexpensive but fun jewelery.. like a whole bunch of 'pearl' bracelets for £1.50.

    Slipper socks (Primark)

Nail Polish (Super cheap if you have a Boots £5 off voucher and buy No7 polish)

Lip balm (great for the winter months and what teen doesn't love lip balm!)

A magazine.. help her to pass the hours away at night :D

Get her a special mug and put some hot chocolate sachets in there?

    Thanks Phunkles!

This is on my list now for my sisters xmas eve hamper :)

I also got some small boxes from work the other day for my hampers, which I will cover with Christmas wrap. Just a few more bits to get then I am done!

Btw, does anyone know if Lush have their Christmas Bubble bath bars out yet? Not been in town for a while and will need 3 of them! :)

  • Does anyone know where I could buy a lovely wicker hamper from ? I hope to use the same hamper each year for DD so it need to be quiet durable and well made, any suggestion very welcomed as I have no idea where to get one.

Pinkflop - Have you looke at Lush's website? http://www.lush.co.uk/products/christmas/show_me_everything.html
Link will take you to their christmas products, they look, well, lush! Think I may be buying the Gingerbread House bubble bar :)
