  • H2B and I will be at my parents this year, along with my uncle (sorry I can never remember the abbreviations for the family members!), and as it will be my H2Bs first time at my folks at xmas I want to make it a bit special (the past 3 years have been at his for various reasons :().

I am going to make us a big communal hamper with

sparkling wine (whichever is on bogof when I have spare cash!)
honey roast cashews or other 'posher' nuts (rather than the bog standard salted peanuts!)
some nice chocs (possibly homemade, depending on how motivated I feel!!)
a DVD quiz game (will b raking the charity shops for that)
fluffy socks each (ideas of where to get cheap gratefully recieved!)

any ideas for another couple of cheap wee things I could put in? Snowman soup already being used as name tags on pressies, and my mum has millions of mugs! :rotfl:
  • mrs chocoholic our hamper is going an a box that i got from wilkinsons last year. it has a snowman scene on it, but the lid will be stood up at the back if that makes sense?! then i will wrap in cellophane with a big bow on it

tartantotty how about some wine glasses for the wine? a dvd to watch maybe? some cheap fleeces (b&m have these for £1.99) then everyone will have something to keep from the hamper

PS what is snowman soup please

It is hot chocolate and marshmallows in a cellophane cone with a candy cane to stir it!
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

Make sure you dont buy the expensive porridge.....the other kids might get jealous..:rotfl:

Oh my word, how funny was that.

Red Devil, I don't want to sound rude- but- mind your own business springs to mind. We all enjoy doing this sort of thing for our kids as a little extra special addition to Christmas. The thread title doesn't read "If you read this thread you must make a... Xmas Eve Hamper", so please- if you don't want to make any hampers, or give any ideas to help other people, which is kind of the idea of the thread, please don't come on slating everyone else.
It's like going to the bakery to tell them you don't like bread, it's just wierd.

:rotfl:xxJoxx, still laughing about the posh porridge! :rotfl:

    Hello

We get our Crimbo eve hamper just after teatime. Otis our christmas Elf leaves its as a final present and thank you to our children ;) :T

    In ours we have:

    New pj's and slipper socks
    New toothbrushes
A Christmas duck each for the bath found on EBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110437739896
Angel Bath bomb each from Lush (makes children skin so soft and good for sensitive and baby skin)
New christmas theme film / DVD
Box Chocolates for us all to share whilst we are watching film
New Book story (Christmassy one) for bedtime story
Reindeer dust to sprinkle outside so Ruldoph knows the way! (porridge oats with hundreds and thousands in)

    Ohhh cant wait! :p

I thought these looked great but
"Note: These ducks are water squirters with a hole in the beak but do float but mostly on their side."
I think my kids would be a bit dissapointed the ducks don't really float

Fab sounding hamper though, don't suppose you want to make me one? lol
I've already got slippers, PJs and a small game for my sons' hampers, may steal a few of your ideas too.

    When do they appear? (timewise)
And do you just do one for the kids, or do parents get one too?

I'm new to all this and will be doing a xmas eve gift for my granddaughter (aged 18 months) and also possibly by son and DIL too. Can someone please let me know what you put the pressies in (a stocking?) and do you wrap them?

Hi, I am using lots of different things for my various hampers this year, from baskets to storage boxes, to wrapped up shoe boxes. The Christmas Eve hamper will be a wrapped up box, stuffed with goodies and then wrapped in cello wrap. I figure my DD will be much more interested in the contents than some of the other people who will appreciate the packing more! Hope this helps. :xmassign:

I missed the original comment as the OP posted at the same time as I did so it wasn't showing.

The mere title is one persons title, not all of us wrote that title so don't tar us all with the same brush please!!

Every year as far back as I could remember we were given new PJ's, slipper socks and a christmassy video, it game my sister and I something to do whilst my mum and dad rushed around to do stuff for christmas day, this also included them both working at various parts of the day!! We loved christmas eve not just because of the new PJ's a video but because we got into the christmas spirit and could get into our new PJ's and have a fabby day!! ... I have carried this tradition on to my own 2. Except the only difference is that I have added a book each and put it in a little box! Oh and it is now a DVD not a video!! My children love christmas and are very very excited from now all the way upto it!! Even my 2 year old who doesn't properly understand but she sits rattling away about santa coming and she has only seen pictures of him in books etc!! Why should I stop what has been a tradition for me for many years and not do it to my children?? Personally my 2 children would hate to have clothes for christmas, especially my DS he tells people clothes are boring presents for which he gets told off and made to apologise as I feel it is ungratefulness but he is 7 and thats the way kids think!!!

I for one disagree with how much some people are putting in their hampers, but I will keep my family tradition for many years to come, and I know my children will have the tradition when they have children of their own!! Our Christmas eve is spent as a FAMILY and we all do things together as a FAMILY which is hard during the week as my OH works away and misses so much!!!

Maybe it is a rod for our own back but they are hardly presents!!!! If you don't like it then fine, no one is asking you to like it but is there any need to come on here and keep flapping your gums??? We have our own traditions and we may well be encouraging other people to have new traditions but they are kids!!!!!!! Kids deserve to be happy and it isn't allways possible to be with your children 24/7!!

    Well said :D

Red Devil - Maybe a couple of appropriate words for you could be BAH HUMBUG!!

    more like sensible.;)
