I missed the original comment as the OP posted at the same time as I did so it wasn't showing.

I can't see what the problem is  Life's too short to worry about what anyone else is getting (live and let live)

thats got nothing to do with whether its necessary or not to start giving children more presents the night before and trying to introduce a new trend?

The mere title of the thread i want to make one better than last year says alot.

The mere title is one persons title, not all of us wrote that title so don't tar us all with the same brush please!!

Every year as far back as I could remember we were given new PJ's, slipper socks and a christmassy video, it game my sister and I something to do whilst my mum and dad rushed around to do stuff for christmas day, this also included them both working at various parts of the day!! We loved christmas eve not just because of the new PJ's a video but because we got into the christmas spirit and could get into our new PJ's and have a fabby day!! ... I have carried this tradition on to my own 2. Except the only difference is that I have added a book each and put it in a little box! Oh and it is now a DVD not a video!! My children love christmas and are very very excited from now all the way upto it!! Even my 2 year old who doesn't properly understand but she sits rattling away about santa coming and she has only seen pictures of him in books etc!! Why should I stop what has been a tradition for me for many years and not do it to my children?? Personally my 2 children would hate to have clothes for christmas, especially my DS he tells people clothes are boring presents for which he gets told off and made to apologise as I feel it is ungratefulness but he is 7 and thats the way kids think!!!

I for one disagree with how much some people are putting in their hampers, but I will keep my family tradition for many years to come, and I know my children will have the tradition when they have children of their own!! Our Christmas eve is spent as a FAMILY and we all do things together as a FAMILY which is hard during the week as my OH works away and misses so much!!!

why cant christmas be special for your kids without a load more presents the night before!:confused:

Rod for own back springs to mind!

Maybe it is a rod for our own back but they are hardly presents!!!! If you don't like it then fine, no one is asking you to like it but is there any need to come on here and keep flapping your gums??? We have our own traditions and we may well be encouraging other people to have new traditions but they are kids!!!!!!! Kids deserve to be happy and it isn't allways possible to be with your children 24/7!!
Whilst you're entitled to your opinion, I'm not sure why you feel the need to come onto a thread where people are plan nice little surprises for their loved ones on Christmas eve and them that "it is a terrible idea!"
I hardly think a Christmas DVD to watch on Christmas eve and giving the kids new PJs to snuggle in whilst watching said DVD is really extravagant. Not really a "mountain" is it? Also something for the family to enjoy together, which is not always possible during the rest of the year.
Although I don't had children yet, I love the idea of a bit of Christmas magic. Some people are planning to make the magic key, cookies for Santa etc. It's a bit of fun. And of course they'll always be the people that don't believe in "the magic" but please don't come and tell us we're wrong for enjoying time with our families.

    Well said :D

here, here! :) I for one know that the faces on my little nieces and nephew will be priceless when they get reindeer food and reindeer poo on xmas eve, a magic key for santa to get in and a film to watch. All at a grand total of £5ish. I know nobody else will do this for them and would have loved to receive this myself (being a big kid!).

We're all excited about Christmas on here and athough you are entitled to your own opinion, please don't try and bring us down :j

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! :santa2:
  • Long time lurker myself and I have to say I saw this tradition last year and think its a lovely continuation of what I do anyway. A lovely way to take time out quietly as a family before all the rest of the family gather on the next day.

Movies, a nice drink, snack, pj's and a bath are things I would do any way - this just takes it all together, adds a little more something and increases the magick of christmas for all gathered.

And when I say a little extra this year it would be a snack left for santa and the reindeer and making (yes making) santa's key xmas eve to be left out for santa. I also went online and created my own letter from santa which i will pop through our door myself and a personalised story which I printed, put together and laminated with a picture of the little miss at the end of the book.

All in all this will be under a tenner and full of things I already have or would have gotten as I too believe in new pj's at christmas as a legacy from my own parents.

Carry on Christmas Eve i say :)

    Hmmm

Pjs, slippers, a fleecy blanket, a christmas DVD and some popcorn and cookies - yes what an awful thing to do to your child on xmas eve.

Imagine encouraging your excited child to have a bath, get PJs on and settle down on the sofa! Oh my god, the horror of it all.

Imagine treating your child to a Xmas story book and a santa stop here sign which can be used again and again!

Yes what a good point to make. Lets give our kids reindeer food on christmas morning, after father christmas has already been!! Oh, yes, what fun

  • It's a bit silly really. This thread was obviously created by someone who wants to make a Christmas eve hamper, then others who also want to make a hamper have left posts. If you do not want to make a hamper then don't make one, why even read the thread if your not interested in making one? And why post just to upset people? (I for one have been)

What is the saying? If you have nothing good to say.....

I think the idea is terrible and an excuse for kids to have even more!

I would never do that! Christmas presents are enough on the day.
Why on earth have you got to have new pyjamas, slippers etc cos its xms Eve and if you do why not put them in with the present on xmas day!

Its just more pressure for parents and what about kids who dont get this done for them they tell other kids at school about their hamper and then their mums/dads feel under pressure to do one!

Soon every child will have to have a mountain of gifts on the day and a mountain of gifts the night before! Now by the title of this thread the hamper has to be even better than last years? Sorry but where does this all end?

Here we go. If you dont like the idea dont come on the thread and post. Just pass by and be on your merry way! :santa2: It makes me laugh when people complain about TV shows! If you dont like them then turn another channel /programme on your not forced to watch it and this is the same - why come on a thread when you dont agree with it or do not have interest in the subject being discussed other then to pee people off .

By the way a few bits on Christmas eve is not a mountain of toys - a hot chocolate, watching a xmas film as a family, bubble bath, new pj's and slipper, toothbrush etc  Also this is not something that is new my parents use to do similar with myself and sisters when i was younger and i am 32yrs old now.

I suggest we ignore this troll :naughty: and get back to the important business of planning our Christmas Eve Hampers!:grouphug:
