  • Hi snoopy, try Cotton Traders

This is where I was going to suggest. I had thought they only did up to a size 20 until I was in their outlet store in Ellesmere Port and my Mum showed me the larger sizes. I don't know if you have an outlet village anywhere near you but they do sometimes have some good reductions in there.

BTW they also had some men's larger sizes. I think I saw up to a 5XL and rugby shirts do seem to flatter most men. My husband doesn't follow rugby but he does have a few of the Guinness shirts.

My perfect top would be a tunic style but without the ties at the back. It would be long enought to skim over my hips and big tummy but not so long as to make a 5' 4'' person look dumpy. It would come in a range of colours/patterns so I wouldn't have to choose just from the two colours which someone has decided are fashionable this year. It would have 3/4 length sleeves & it would celebrate my curves by having quite a low wide neck,

I had this top - well, sort of. Admittedly it was plain black and had ties but the rest is the same. I loved wearing it. It started life as my going out top - dressed up with jewellery and make-up, worked it's way through to being a work top with smart trousers and then finally a slouching about the house top until it could take no more and had to go in the bin about 18 months ago.

Sadly, I really loved that top. I bought it in the sales about 4-5 years ago and if I had known it would be so good I would have bought more.

Material wise, I think it was a thickish cotton, so that it covered, was warm but didn't cling. It was fitted under the bust and then hung down loose so hid all my lumps and bumps. The neckline was low but to avoid it showing too much had an extra panel in so that it flattered the cleavage and just covered the area where some tops would gape.

Sorry, this is really too much rambling about one item of clothing. :o
  • I need a pair of work shoes - they need to be black and flat. <cut> I'm about to break down and just go splurge on the credit card in Clarks, but I really can't afford it :o

Do you have an outlet village near you? Sorry to mention them twice in one night but the one up by my Mum has a Clarks outlet store and things can be at a much more reasonable price. They also sometimes do offers where you get two pairs at a reasonable price.

I got a pair of black boots from our local Clarks (early Christmas present so sorry, not reduced) and they feel really sturdy and not at all slippery. They even have a reasonably sized heel but it does feel like you are walking around in a pair of solid DMs. Amazingly they also fitted around the top without any panels of elastic or me not doing the zip all the way to the top as has happened in the past. I've got my Mum on the look out for the brown pair if they come in the outlet shop.

I hope you have been able to find something.

J They seem to forget sometimes that larger ladies are sometimes only 5ft - 5ft 3ins tall. Most of the tops I buy fit my hips but are too wide around the top and show off most of my bra straps!!! Still I live in hope.

Speaking as one who is just about 5ft 3ins I know exactly what you mean. Most tops - particularly Evans ones - seem to gape under the arms and are much too loose around the neckline. Anything I try on with a fitted belt or waist tie is always much too low for my waist as the tops are too long for my body length.
  • Ok, last post from me tonight.

Sorry I have done so many but I have been out of it for the last couple of weeks with Mum visiting and a trip back up north, so I had a bit of catching up to do. :)
  • Hi Everyone, A bit of tangent - I picked up a copy of 'Glamour' mag for £2 today (not my ususal taste) but - you get a free Nails Inc varnish with it, I think they normally sell for £10. I got a fab deep red - just right for my toes!! Noticed also a purple, and a neutral.

Spotted on Bon Prix their maternity range goes up to a 30 in some things & I know that SimplyBe have a range too. 5 years ago when I was pregnant I was a bit upset that I couldn't get any maternity wear to fit me so I do think this is great.
Had a look at your link for the mag Terra_ferma, seems like you have to sign up to access it, is it worth doing, you don't have to pay do you?

No it's free, I've been a subscriber for a year or so, although to be honest it's not really my taste so I don't read it, but it's nice to know there's something for us out there!
