Hi, hope you had a great holiday!! My ideal top would be made of the sort of cotton jersey that doesn't "stick", has some give in it, is easy to wash, can be tumble dried without shrinking & doesn't need ironing!! It would be loose but not baggy & would def cover my tum & bum, but not much longer than this as I'm only 5'2"! I don't like very low tops - I like a "V" or scoop neck, but don't want to worry about my boobs being on show every time I lean forward. I hate "cap" sleeves as they are so unflattering, & "puffy" type shoulders/sleeves do nothing for me either. I like short sleeve & 3/4 sleeved tops & long sleeved for winter. Huge prints don't suit me. I do sometimes wear tops that are fitted to under the bust & then flare out which I find are very flattering. Agree with others that ties are a pain in the neck, especially as my cats try to catch & play with them! I know you haven't asked about jeans etc, but I find it terrible to find ones that fit around my stomach without them hanging off my waist - why do designers assume that just because we're bigger we don't have a waist?? :rolleyes2 Gosh, that's a long list isn't it, lol!! :D
THANKS X I HAD A LOVELY BREAK JUST THE TWO OF US.. WE RELAXED BY THE LAST DAY?! THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK ON THE TOP AND THE JEANS. I MAY HAVE SOMETHING OF INTEREST FOR YOU BUT I JUST HAVE TO TIE UP A FEW LOOSE THREADS IN REGARDS TO THE JEANS. I TOO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM OF THE WAIST GAPING AROUND 6" FROM MY WAIST FOR JEANS TO FIT MY BUM AND THIGHS. THE ONLY JEANS I FIND FIT ARE JUNIOR JEANS FROM THE US, THEY ARE MORE OF THE HOURGLASS SHAPE BUT DO GO INTO THE PLUS SIZES...BUT..THEY ARE AGAIN SIZED DIFFERENTLY..SO A SIZE 22UK IS A 19/20US AND 24UK IS A 21/22US.

My niece lives in Florida & I go over to stay with her each year & come back with some fab stuff, especially trousers - seems to be the only place I can get them that fit me - the main place being Wal Mart!! They do a label called White Stagg which sell out really quickly. Having said that, looking at the web site they seem to be dropping this range - typical when you find something you like! I got some great jeans this year - flat front & elasticated back so they actually do fit around my waist - getting something with elastic in the waist is the only way I can get anything to fit me, plus they must have elastine in them so they move with you. I got some great capris too & even with the pound not being great against the dollar at the mo, they're still cheap :D I'd just love to be able to get trousers/jeans over here that fit around the waist & don't sweep the floor while I'm walking! Work your magic :T

What do you think of those all in one body shaper things ladies? I'm thinking of getting a Gok one (liked the colour) but I don't know anything about them. Last all in one thing I had was in the 80s and I recall the popper things always coming undone and it rolling up around my waist (not a good look really)!
I bought a magic vest thingy from Matalan the other day for £6 it just looks like an ordinary vest top but has a panel of lycra around the tummy area, it's quite comfy & does seem to smooth things out.
    Booo!!!

I have terrible trouble when buying jeans as they never fit around the back - always too big - Im forever hitching my favourite ones up!
Bon Marche's sizing is quite hit and miss - Im a 26/28 but have a pair of heavy cotton (non-elastic) trousers from there that are a 22 and still fit fine! I used to work there and have had some lovely stuff from there (I have a pair of chocolate brown jeans my mum bought me from there years ago and I love them) Ive noticed their stuff lately is a bit 'granny-fied' but I like the jewellery.

I have a couple of the Gok Wan magic pant things, the slicker Knicker, which is fab, doesnt roll down and really pulls it all in with no unsightly rolls as it comes really high (under bust) and is well shaped round the upper thigh area...I also have the one with the longer leg bits great for wearing under a dress as some magic pants with legs in lead to chaffing! and these are such lovely substantial material :)
I also bought the Banger Booster bra, but wouldn't reccommend as was expensive and the wires poked out within a couple of weeks, it did have really nice bells that jangled when I walked and by boyf loved it!!!

    HTH :)

I tried a couple of the Gok corsets and the quality was absolutely awful - I was sooooo disappointed as I LOVED the colour (a fab purple shade) and it put me off trying anything else. Maybe I'll have another look :)

I'd not worn jeans for years because of the gaping bit at the back problem, but I have recently fallen in love with the Eve jeans on Simply Be. They fit perfectly and look gorgeous, especially the indigo ones :) I even found some stonewash coloured ones on Crazy Clearance for less than £10 :T

  • Have a look at Elvi (sizes 16 - 28) on line, specifically their current sale with BOGOF. They have sent me two beautifully finished cotton/linen shirts for total of £20 plus £4.95 postage, originally costing £69 and £79. They are such good quality I am ordering more, and almost every time I look at the site, more garments are added. Their customer service has been very good, too: prompt answers to emails, and I was allowed to change my mind. Sorry if Elvi has already been mentioned, but there is too much to check through.

Elvi normally only go up to size 26 (3), not 28. There may be the odd size 28/4, but very little. I know because I can only buy bottoms from them, but not tops.

I also find their prices ridiculously expensive, although the quality is good.
    However the sales are great!

PS they do size 28, at least online!
  • Not many 28s? In the on line sale, most of the items I click on offer 28 still in stock - but you clearly have used them more than I have. I agree that the full prices are prohibitively high, for me, anyway. The tops I ordered, 16 (with a certain anxiety, not my usual size but the 18 was out of stock) and 18 are generously cut so their 16 is perfect for me, and the 18 is OK too.

I stand corrected.... they do have size 28 online. Never seen it in shops. Great!

I was also surprised to see that they are still trading, as earlier this year they went into administration.
