  • Hi ladies, just found this thread and nice to have some support  . I'm a size 24 and find it really hard to get styles I like - obviously I like 'younger' looking clothes but not chavvy stuff or the latest fashion (that generally look hideous, ultra skinny jeans anyone?!). I tend to buy stuff from bon marche / asda / ebay - fed up of evans, their jeans are crap and fall apart / wear through really quickly, things never fit right waist/hips, and all the tops are expensive. The only thing I get there is plain tshirts as they're a bit longer than most.

For the lady designing clothes: - not too a low neckline, longer short sleeves or 3/4 length (I know so many bigger girls, inc me, who are SO self conscious about their upper arms), and LONG to cover tummy bump! :D

  • Right I have a challenge for you ladies! :D

I need a pair of work shoes - they need to be black and flat. I can't stand ballet shoes or anything that doesn't cover the whole foot, and I really need something that's waterproof and with a bit of grip as I walk to work down a long icy hill in winter  I'm a size 8, widish - trainers etc fit me fine, your average fashion shoe does not. I have a weak ankle following a break so they need to have decent sole padding and be flat, as I'm liable to sprains even in flats, nevermind heels!

This is the kind of style I like:

    Doc Martens
    Doc Martens #2
    Clarks

Anybody seen anything? I'm about to break down and just go splurge on the credit card in Clarks, but I really can't afford it :o

Brantano do Clarks and Hush Puppies a bit cheaper (£30-£50) Also Barrets have some nice work shoes which are wide fit.

whatever you do don't go for the clarks Wallabees if you have weak ankles, they are treacherous!!!

Have you tried eBay for your favourite brands? Ecco are really comfy, and Doc martens can be cheap on eBay...
    In 2010 I intend to lose 36.5lbs and gain 365 £s
    :A :money:

    Progress so far: 0 lbs 0 £
    10k in 2010 total: £7.47
  • I'll have a look at ecco, tbh i never thought of them as doing younger styles :o maybe i'm wrong.

I do keep checking ebay but never see anything come up that's just right. I'm a fussy git :D

Can i ask all..say there was a perfect top for you what would it be like?and why? For example would you make it a certain length to cover your tum or bum? Would you have low v necks to lengthen your neck and draw eyes to the best bits? Long/short/3/4 sleeves? Longer at the back/front? Made out of what?why? ... I ask only to give me a better idea for my designs. Kindest regards me x

Hi, hope you had a great holiday!! My ideal top would be made of the sort of cotton jersey that doesn't "stick", has some give in it, is easy to wash, can be tumble dried without shrinking & doesn't need ironing!! It would be loose but not baggy & would def cover my tum & bum, but not much longer than this as I'm only 5'2"! I don't like very low tops - I like a "V" or scoop neck, but don't want to worry about my boobs being on show every time I lean forward. I hate "cap" sleeves as they are so unflattering, & "puffy" type shoulders/sleeves do nothing for me either. I like short sleeve & 3/4 sleeved tops & long sleeved for winter. Huge prints don't suit me. I do sometimes wear tops that are fitted to under the bust & then flare out which I find are very flattering. Agree with others that ties are a pain in the neck, especially as my cats try to catch & play with them! I know you haven't asked about jeans etc, but I find it terrible to find ones that fit around my stomach without them hanging off my waist - why do designers assume that just because we're bigger we don't have a waist?? :rolleyes2 Gosh, that's a long list isn't it, lol!! :D
