Hello, it's that time of year again...
I put on my supposedly waterproof coat yesterday as it was bucketing it down - I was soaked all over my coat didn't keep out the rain at all.
So I'm looking for recommendations for a waterproof (not just shower proof) coat, must have a hood, be at least mid thigh length, no shorter (but can be longer). Size 22/24, and under £50.
Thanks everyone.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Have you had a look on very/ loads of nice coats, south by very ho up to a 22 so you may not even have to go plus size.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

I find that even if they say they're waterproof, they're just not! I now treat all my "waterproof" jackets with proofing spray (I prefer Fabsil) which seems to do the job to a certain extent (not if you're in torrential rain for a prolonged length of time, but enough to not get soaked whilst walking the dog/doing school run iyswim). The only truly waterproof coat I owned had an outer shell which was PU coated to the inside. I took it to the cleaners as I was scared to wash it in the machineand they completely trashed it
Apparently they didn't realise that I only wanted it cleaned, not dry cleaned - and dry cleaning destroys PU coated things
Anyway, I digress - you may be better looking at "outdoors" type of shops. I'd recommend looking for something with taped seams etc. But I think you may struggle with the length, and sizing is limited too. Here's one suggestion http://www.mountainwarehouse.com/womens/jackets/womens-waterproof-jackets/guelder--winter-womens-long-jacket-p8660.aspx?ism=0&cl=NAVY#Desc looking at the reviews, it does seem quite long, but only goes up to a 22.
Another suggestion is this one (Bon Marche again I'm afraid) http://www.bonmarche.co.uk/coats+jackets/waterproof-jacket/invt/01560826/&bklist=icat,4,shop,shopbyproduct,coatsandjackets&bklist=icat,4,shop,shopbyproduct,coatsandjackets but at least it does go up to a size 24. For this one, I'd be buying Fabsil

Thanks, I have got this one http://www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/climate-base-performance-jacket/je281/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=8424#colour:,size: Climate Base Performance Jacket
Product Code: JE281FX (much cheaper) via an eBay auction - just hope it fits!
Had been making sure all the ones I was looking at had taped seams too.
I saw the Bon Marche one in black - it was my back up plan!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Castaluna sell lots of plus size things from different companies like La Redoute and some designers. Today there is 20% off tops and there is also a sale of. Sorry I don't know how long offers last. :-)Stop looking for answers....

Oooh, nice, and it looks like it's a good length! Good old e-bay eh?!I think I'd still recommend giving it a once-over with proofing spray though

I was in Sainsburys today to look at clothes as there is 25% off and noticed loads of their TU clothes now go up to size 24 .
I still miss the Grace range which went up to size 28 and was great quality .
