Your comments have even given me some hope that maybe I'm not getting everything completely wrong after all. I'm not not at all brave for posting photos of myself, I just felt so desperate and wouldn't dare show my face.:o I thought a few pics would give you more idea of the sort of help I needed.
At home, I would never wear sleeveless tops or cropped trousers except for around the house and garden. I do normally keep my upper arms covered but it gets so hot in Turkey and doesn't seem to cool down, even in the evenings. I think you are right Jojo, the crops would probably look better if they were shorter. What about the long trousers - those in the pics are wide legged, would a narrower leg look better? I love the idea of wearing a maxi dress with a shrug and had been toying with the idea of ordering a couple from 'yours' but was worried that I'd look like mutton dressed as lamb.
The outfits in the photos aren't as I would wear them to go out, I do add jewellery, nail polish etc but they were hurriedly put on (hence some of them being crumpled, as they were straight from the suitcase they had been stored in) so my son could take and post the photos for me before he went out. I would love to wear high heels but as I have arthritis, they are a no no, as I would probably spend more time flat on my face than I would on my feet.
Buying shoes/sandals is the other bane of my life as I find it so difficult to get any that are really comfy. I've found that due to my arthritis, I now walk differently and that when I wear sandals similar to the ones in the pics, they tend to slip as I walk, so my heel is actually coming down onto the side, iykwim. Perhaps the answer to that is to wear ones with straps to hold them in place.
Anyway, thanks again for your replies and if there are any more suggestions for me, please post, as I really appreciate it.:)
Well done for posting your pictures!
One problem that I have is that trousers tend to rise between my legs, because I have large thighs. I found M&S stretch wide leg trousers look good, I find them cheaper on ebay (genuine M&S overstock, I was able to compare them with an identical pair bought for £25, as I only wear those to work I have several pairs in various colours).
These are the cheapest I found on ebay, the seller has 100% feedback:

These are the ones from M&S, there is a limited sale on:

Depending where you live in the country yours do have some shops they are predominately in the east of the country and as far north as Hull & Manchester, this is the link to their location page, so you could go & try some on or if there isn't one nearby look at other stores & try on to get a idea.

You could also use a thin wrap or a lacy cardigan around your shoulders, my mum has worn maxi dress with everything from strappy sandals to court shoes she has also been known to wear schol sandals with her dresses.
I think alot is to getting one with a cut that suits you, so it might be a bit of trial & error0

            Me again!
The long trousers look lovely, wide and flowing, so they are a good choice as well.
Shoes - I sympathise. With your heel dropping in, I have that and wear the inserts you can get from Boots for heel pain/plantar fasciitis. They're pricey and feel weird at first, but they stop the heel turn thingy and actually help a lot, so my feet and the rest of me doesn't hurt quite so much after a long day (I have rheumatoid arthritis, so get that kind of thing a lot ). I have a couple of sets and just take them out and pop them in whatever I'm wearing on a day. I do wear good trainers most of the time, as my physio said that they are better in terms of support and cushioning than a lot of shoes out there. I wear them with smart trousers as well as jeans and although I am a but younger than you, nobody has ever said I look silly - and, to be honest, as it affects my pain levels and how I function during both day and night, if I had to wear green rollerskates and a pair of pink glittery wings to be out of pain, I would ). If you have a look at Hotter shoes, you could find something there in their extra wide fit range. Go through Quidco cashback and it helps to make up for their cost. I would say stick to their wider fitting ones, as their standards are wide, but looking at your photos, I think you would find the standard ones slightly cramped.
Other than that, no you don't look like mutton. Mutton wears skintight lycra and micro skirts with stiletto heels. Well, they do round here, anyway.

Shoes-have you ever tried Birkenstocks? I am a total convert to them & have quite a few pairs now. The 2 strap ones are my fave, but there are many different styles to choose from. I can't wear heels either, due a busted kneecap, so I often wear my Birkis with a dress & it looks fine. Would recommend the Yours maxi dresses too. I've only managed to find one which is short enough for me, but it's a fab material and doesn't crease, so perfect for holidays.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

The black and white tops look lovely, especially the one with the white trousers.
Not sure if this one will be to everyone's tastes, as most of the range is a bit medieval-style, but I don't think anyone's posted it yet (I skimmed the thread but used the search function), and a lot of it wouldn't look out of place on the high street: the Eaon Plus stuff on Amazon ranges between sizes 18 and 36, and the top I ordered for my Mum looks lovely on her, so the cut should be a good fit at least around size 18 / 20.0

Im looking for a bit of help finding a cocktail dress for my graduation ball in july. im looking for a fairly cheap dress and it would need to be a plus size. Does anyone have any sites i could check? My problems comes mostly from having a large bust which means that a lot of dresses dont fit. ive looked at next, m&s fraisers but dresses are either out of a students budget or dont have the right size.
 Thanks
I think this is lovely and not too dear

No, you are not getting it all wrong at all. Have you looked at Holy Clothing? They have a nice floaty, long line top called Mona which I think would suit you very well and would look great with your trousers.
Re Shoes. I wear Birkenstocks a lot, but recently I've been having loads of problems with a back injury (not shoe related!) and my Chiropractor has recommended Fitflops as they cushion your footfall. They are very comfy - I've got a pair of the toepost ones, but they now do some styles with straps as well. They are quite pricey, but for comfort & quality, I would rate them highly.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Wow! Thanks again ladies for all your great suggestions.:) I found out about 'yoursclothing' through reading this thread and I think most of the tops and the long trousers that I'm wearing in the photos are from them. They may not be of the best quality but they are such easy care fabrics. The black ones are their 'slinky' ones and I think they might be similar to those from M&S. I hope so, because they are so comfortable to wear and I would love to have some in different colours, but I've only seen black in 'yours'.
I've decided that I'm definitely going to send for some maxi dresses to try. I've already got a couple of shrugs, so I'll see if I can find dresses to match up with those. I actually bought a couple of Indian cotton, tie-dye dresses whilst on holiday last year, which I felt good in but when I returned home, I remembered that my mum used to soak things in salt water to stop the dyes from running. I put them both to soak and the dyes ran into each other and they are ruined.
I do have a pair of Birkenstock sandals and although they are comfortable, I'd prefer something a little less "bulky" for wearing in the evenings. I really like some of the fit flops styles but can't wear toe posts and not keen on their styles with the thick straps. When I used to do shop work, I loved wearing Scholl sandals so think I might try wearing some again.
Oh well, I told my poor husband I wouldn't be buying any more new clothes for this holiday. I think I was lying!:rotfl:0
