Thanks
No problem just done a quick google & found this website, not 100% they have what you are looking for but the prices are very student friendly

as others have said if it is strapless you can easily add some wide ribbon/ fabric straps
I would also check out some of the charity shops online sites.0 -
thanks for the help guys im having a look around those sites just now.
I will try TKMaxx - think its a good idea to try some stuff on to see about the shapes that suit best.
Terre_ferma thanks for the returns info ill maybe try that if i dont have much luck elsewhere.0 -
when we went posh frock shopping I took a pic of myself in each one, then had a look at them later - in the cold light of day away from any sparkly beads or gorgeous looking silk, that way I saw the dress for how it really looked ( big boobs are a nightmare to dress properly!)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I wonder if some of you kind ladies on this thread could give me some much needed help and advice please?
When I was younger and very slim, I loved clothes and was confident that I looked good in almost anything I wore. Now I am 58, have gained lots of weight, have no confidence and look awful in everything I try on, I loathe shopping for new clothes. I see other women of a similar age and size to myself and think how nice they look in what they are wearing but when I try on something similar, I just look like a shapeless lump.
I'm going on holiday soon so have been going through my clothes to decide what to take away with me and can't find anything that I feel looks good on me. I've posted some pics of some of the clothes I wore on my last holiday and would be so grateful if you could point out where you think I am going wrong with the clothes I wear and suggest styles that would sit me better.

Deedar, bless you. You are incredibly brave for posting your photos. I think the longer trousers & tunics look great actually, and I especially like the white trousers/black & white tunic combo, which looks dressy and summery.
I also think you are right to go for cropped trousers rather than shorts for daytime - or you could try long floaty skirts. (I wear cropped leggings underneath mine, to stop chafing
) Personally I prefer to keep my upper arms covered, as they are not my best feature by a long shot, I try to find tops with elbow length sleeves if poss.
Finally, I think everything always looks better with a tan, so you might like to try a light fake spray tan before you go. You can have it done wearing your swimsuit, so don't need to feel self conscious about stripping off. HTH

I also think you are very brave posting pictures & I am a good few years younger

think that the 2 tops that gather under the bust look really good as they show off that you have a waist, & also the v neckline suits your bust line. I agree that the longer tunic with trousers looks really nice. I think that maxi dresses would look nice as they are floaty & very forgiving. My mum is 60 this year & loves maxi dress as they cover what she refers to as her wobbly bits, she likes the ones that have slightly wider straps as it means that you can wear a "normal" bra not a strapless one. The ones she has a similar to these on yours website, http://www.yoursclothing.co.uk/P/Black_Coral_Spring_Detail_Printed_Maxi_Dress-(11107).aspx
http://www.yoursclothing.co.uk/P/Maxi_Dress_Plus_Size_161820222426283032-(10755).aspx
I know one was designed as halter neck but the straps were long enough so she has sewn them to the back like normal straps. She tried on the bandau type & thought they looked really unflattering.
She isn't that keen on her upper arms so sometimes puts on a shrug cardigan.
Hope this helps0 -
I would say look for things that mirror the cut of the outfit with the white trousers and the one after that - they easily halve your perceived size compared to the almost diamond shape created by the vest tops and cropped trousers combinations. Adding a dark, flowing, v-neck cardigan/voile jacket/pashmina on the other tops would create a similar lengthening and broaden your shoulders to create a more elongated silhouette in relation to your waist and and hips.
If you want to wear shorter trousers, I would actually take them up so, rather than finishing on your calves, they finish just a couple of inches below your knees instead - more a Capri pants length, as at the moment they are neither here nor there, which gives the impression that your legs are shorter.
Other than that, I can't see much wrong with the clothes you have chosen - and a maxi dress that has a similar empire line, teamed with a shoulder covering, would look lovely as well.
Hope that helps!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

I agree the longer line tops look better as do the longer trousers. Buy some really pretty shoes - heels for when you don't have to walk far and gorgeous flats when you do - they needn't cost much - and even if you have wide feet (like me) you can get them. Recommend some daft nail polish on your toes when you have sandals - takes ages to chip so unlike fingers can get away with it! At the moment I have some shocking pink polish on my toes with a clear glitter top coat which matches some sequinned fit flop alikes I walk to work in (change when I get there!). I find it cheers me up and I am in similar age bracket to you.
Final tips - pretty matching underwear even though its only you that knows you have it on - is a confidence booster. Bon Marche is good for underwear and often sells off bras cheap. And maybe earrings? Neither of us are young and slim now but there is no reason not to look our best for our own sakes.

Thank you all so much for your replies, I'm taking all your helpful suggestions on board. Your comments have even given me some hope that maybe I'm not getting everything completely wrong after all. I'm not not at all brave for posting photos of myself, I just felt so desperate and wouldn't dare show my face.:o I thought a few pics would give you more idea of the sort of help I needed.
At home, I would never wear sleeveless tops or cropped trousers except for around the house and garden. I do normally keep my upper arms covered but it gets so hot in Turkey and doesn't seem to cool down, even in the evenings. I think you are right Jojo, the crops would probably look better if they were shorter. What about the long trousers - those in the pics are wide legged, would a narrower leg look better? I love the idea of wearing a maxi dress with a shrug and had been toying with the idea of ordering a couple from 'yours' but was worried that I'd look like mutton dressed as lamb.
The outfits in the photos aren't as I would wear them to go out, I do add jewellery, nail polish etc but they were hurriedly put on (hence some of them being crumpled, as they were straight from the suitcase they had been stored in) so my son could take and post the photos for me before he went out. I would love to wear high heels but as I have arthritis, they are a no no, as I would probably spend more time flat on my face than I would on my feet.
Buying shoes/sandals is the other bane of my life as I find it so difficult to get any that are really comfy. I've found that due to my arthritis, I now walk differently and that when I wear sandals similar to the ones in the pics, they tend to slip as I walk, so my heel is actually coming down onto the side, iykwim. Perhaps the answer to that is to wear ones with straps to hold them in place.
Anyway, thanks again for your replies and if there are any more suggestions for me, please post, as I really appreciate it.:)0
