Having a really useless day! Supposed to be studying (psychology - someone asked - think it was Crafty Scholar?) but somehow there's always some emergency cropping up on a Friday which just eats into the time on the one day of the week I call my own.
(Moan, mutter, grumble, kicks chair )
Having exchanged a few pointedly snitty e-mails this morning with a number of unhelpful people, I'm now too full of adrenaline to concentrate on my studies, so I'm going to see if I can get that bathroom star before DD finishes school. At least I'll have done something useful....:(
Going to glug my coffee, then go for it at 14:45 - well, however long it takes I guess or school run, whichever comes sooner. Hoping it isn't going to be too bad.
MissH

p.s. I have a fab LG washing machine which is designed to take a king sized duvet and just swallows enormous loads whole. I love it.0 -

I would definitely replace it, since you can buy a new machine for that much these days;)
I have a Zanussi never had any problems with it at all, :jand like Piggers I always stuff mine full:o
Before that I had an Ariston that needed fixed every year, the circuit board kept blowing:rolleyes:
I still dont understand though why things these days done last ( sorry Granny moment there:o......especially at my age:eek::rotfl:)
I've had a Zanussi in the past that was constantly breaking down. I've had an Ariston for the past five years which has never let me down (touch wood). If I was rich I'd get a Miele but I'm not........if I had to replace mine I'd probably try a Bosch.0 -
Well done on getting the floor done Soappie it looks fabulouse. And congratulations to Soappie, Valli & Triker on the poems
Mudbath - huge hugs for you and your family, and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your DS. Its good that they're looking into things thoroughly, and hopefully they will find the problem quickly and can start working on making him better.
Toots - glad you're enjoying choosing your music. I love the Battle Hymn of the Republic. It's such an energetic and joyful tune to have at funerals (you'd have to specify that you wanted it at an upbeat pace!), and everyone HAS to sing it loudly and join in. If you want any ideas for readings, I went to a wonderfully inspiring funeral earlier this year, which is full of beautiful readings, poems and quotations. This is one i particularly like.MissHiggerty wrote: »... starting to alter the velvet curtain I took down from my living room door. Found that I only need to slash an existing seam in order to separate into two curtains, which will save a huge amount of time; though I'm not sure that it will reach to the ground even after I've lengthened it, as I really needed 5" amd I've got just over 4". Still, it's better than nothing, and I can't afford to replace them at the moment. Can always stick a draught-excluder snake at the bottom to hide the small gap.toottifrootti wrote: »greenbee glad you are getting the chance to exercise - cant your boss suggest some things to see?
Journey back was hellish... my boss had a satnav, but no map...
... we get into NY and the satnav took us past the signs for JFK... he said that was because he'd programmed it for the car rental place... eventually he agreed that either he'd programmed the wrong address or the satnav was wrong, but kept asking me where we should go
which clearly I couldn't help with as I didn't have a map
Being a man... did he stop and ask directions??? Not till I told him to ask a policeman... who didn't know. Then he asked a cab driver, but without a map it wasn't very helpful.
He called his wifewho was in another state to say he was lost and might miss his flight (a two-hour internal flight...). I asked him what I should do if I missed my flight... to which he said book a hotel and buy another ticket - I pointed out that I didn't have a company credit card or phone... and he just kept on calling his wife!
Eventually he stopped and bribed a cab driver to show us the way (by this time it was rush hour, and I was due to check in in 20 minutes), so I got out of his car and got into the cab (I told him it would be quicker in case there was a problem), which he paid cash for (luckily, as I wasn't carrying enough). I then discovered my phone could get reception, so called a friend, who told me about the emergency travel service, called them (£2/minute - I'm claiming that back on expenses!) and they got in touch with the airline, told me about alternative flights, said they could sort out hotels/flights etc if necessary, at which point I stopped worrying!
The cab driver was a star, and did really well in the rush hour traffic. My boss managed to follow - but did he bother to come to the terminal and see whether I got on my flight? Did he call me on my personal mobile (which he knew by then had some personal reception? NO  He went straight to the car rental place and presumably got on HIS flight home. He did send me an email WHEN HE GOT HOME!!! asking for my flight status.
I have to say, I'm very unimpressed. I would NEVER have left a new member of staff (particularly not a female one) alone at night in a strange city with no money and no contacts... so I'm seriously considering my position with this job. I don't think I can work for someone like this, and after the way he really didn't cope with the whole getting lost thing very well (I mean, didn't he know about the emergency travel service, and couldn't he at least have asked his wife to call the airline for me?!) I'm not sure I have a huge amount of respect for him, and I think that could be a huge problem in a working relationship.
On the bright side, he's on the other side of the altlantic and I may not see him face to face for a year or more! And I made it home OK... (oh yes... and if you're the last person onto the plane, you don't have to wait for your luggage to go onto the carousel at the other end!) Mind you... there was also no taxi waiting for me and no record of the booking, but the taxi company were great and had someone there before I got out of the terminal...
I've now had a sleep, seen the electrician, logged on to work, once again failed to get my phone software work  so didn't make today's teleconference! I've had lunch, but I'm still very cold. The hot water should be ready by now, but I need to decide what to do with the rest of the day!0 -

My goodness, Greenbee, your new boss doesn't sound very professional at all! Thank heavens everything worked out alright for you getting home.
So much for our walk and fruit picking, as the rain is coming down in sheets hereManaged to do quite a bit of sorting tho. DD is playing with her toy typewriter and I'm about to feed the baby having had a swift cuppa. Feel like it has been quite a productive day so far - just a shame we didn't get to the park

The problem is that as I have peeled back the layers of chaos this week, I have noticed far more that needs to be done! The next few weeks will hopefully solve this, but in some ways it was a bit of a disappointment to see just how shabby things are!
Hypno, it does get better as the days go by. Soon your flying will take you no longer than an hour to complete, its just a case of sticking it out and doing it layer by layer (baby steps). I still get bored cleaning in fact I hate it but if I do my housework in 15 minute slots then after 15 mins do something else on the list then 15 mins after that do something else then do back to what was 1st on the list it soon gets done.
Hope everyone is having to good day, hugz to those that need them. Stay safe all xxxtotal debt at LBM £4800
Debt as of Mar 2016 £1790 Hope to be debt free July 2016:eek:

Gosh Greenbee what a nightmare. So glad it turned out OK in the end but...I understand what you mean about losing respect for the guy!
Thanks for the tip about the curtain. I'd been wondering whether to do this myself. I'll see how short it comes up and then perhaps have a rootle round in my 'Material Basket of Doom'.... I could make a couple of tie-backs to match, perhaps, out of the same material?
Anyhow, I've chased around in a temper until I now feel more mellow:cool:, and in the meantime.... I've done this!
