Card Readers. I hate them!

I like mine. I've no idea whether or not it is really secure, but having to use it any time I set up a new payee on my account makes me feel as though it is less likely someone else could easily set something like that up.
If I had to use it every time I logged into my account then I know I would find it really, really annoying.

Often I just need to log in to check whether money has been received/paid out so it's a pain to have to use the reader to do this. It is also an extra pain for me as it means I have to try and remember the PIN number for the debit card which I would otherwise never need to use!
I have a terrible memory so have had to write this down which is actually creating more of a security risk than not using a card reader!
To be fair to Barclays you do not have to use the card reader to log in if you only want to look at balances or statements.
You only need to use it if you want to perform any actions on the account.0 -

That's not true. I have to use the card reader to be able to log in to the account on the front page! It needs details from my debit card (not going to mention specifically what for obvious reasons!) plus the number generated by my card reader.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

No you don't. https://ibank.barclays.co.uk/olb/o/ForgottenCardReaderStandalone.do0 -
I only have to use mine to set up new payees - and they are better that the LTSB "we'll phone you back" every time you want to set up a new payee or standing order. (Still trying to get round to setting up SOs between 7 vantage accounts - but can't cope with the phone calls......)0

But that is only a temporary solution allowing access for 14 days if you've lost your card reader and not something you can use permanently.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

After the fourteen days it reverts it back to the regular page where you can just go through the process again.
Alternatively, if you would prefer to always have the old style, the online banking help desk will transfer it back if you specifically request it, but you won't be able to transact on your accounts.
We require their use to log-in as part of a risk policy where by your card and PIN will be used for almost all transactions you undertake, be it at an ATM, in a branch, online, etc.
If you have to write down your PIN, you should do so in a disguised manner or code known only to yourself. What would William Shatner do?0 -

But the point is that I would never usually need to know or remember my PIN were it not for this damned card reader! It's all a moot point anyway as I've virtually stopped using Barclays now because of it.
It makes me laugh because you have more chance of getting your card cloned from using an ATM or PIN sentry machine, neither of which I ever do anyway, than having my bank account hacked into online!!! Now who's the sensible one!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
