Hello all
Its come to the time in my marriage that our contraception choices are limited.
My wife was told by her doc that she can no longer take hormonal contraceptives.
So that leaves abstinence, condoms, or a vasectony. The first 2 I can't even comtemplate.
Any guys out there had it? Did it hurt? What are pros and cons? Any experience you want to share?
My best mate had it and went black and blue (literally - he showed me!).
Any advice for someone considering it?

My husband had it done 18 months ago and he was in quite abit of pain and he has a high threshold. He had it done at the surgery under local and the procedure was quick and painless but the bruising after looked horrible and he did too much too soon when he should have been resting for the day:rolleyes: there was also swelling which wasnt nice.
He was totally back to normal within about 5-7 days. He has had 2 infections since the op which was tube related but other than that...fine. He used standard pain meds and was fine.
OH was worried about arousal after the op as he had read that sometimes you cant get an erection, but he was fine in the first 24hrs:D....think that was to just prove it was all working okay IYKWIM.
I am unable to have more kids anyway and this was the safest way so I couldnt as he had a very high sperm count....not any more...he's now a JAFFA!!:rotfl:
OH is sooo glad he had it done and wish he had had it done sooner.

Hi
Hubby had it done beginning of June, and apart from not being able to walk properly for a few days he has had no problems at all. He was literally walking like John Wayne. He had it done Friday morning, took it easy for a couple of days and was fine to go back to work on the Monday. He has had no infections, no bruising although did obviously have quite a bit of swelling.
He had it done at our surgery under local and he says it wasn't as bad as having a filling! It took a lot for him to have this done as he is very very squeemish about things to do with 'down there'.
He has just had his final results back and all has worked as expected :0)

my oh had it done about 2 1/2 yrs ago. we had to wait about 5-6 months and oh had a counseling session to make sure he was doing the thing. oh said the op was over very quickly and he was chatting to the doctor throughout and found it relatively painless. i would say it took about a week for the swelling and bruising to go down but oh was lucky and he didnt seem to suffer too much, he said he expected it to be much worse and was pleasently surprised. he had a week off work at the doctors orders, oh said the worst thing was having to very tight underwear for the full week after as hes a more of a boxer short sort of bloke ( he did try without but he found he ached!!!!). after three months he went back to the doctors and was given the all clear and we've not looked back since. no problems or anything. give your doc a visit to see how long waiting times are and to discus your options.March 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000

My husband is 9 weeks post vasectomy, he is 100% back to normal now and about to have his first sample tested. The procedure was uncomplicated and he was out within 15 minutes ( Firday lunchtime), he rested for the whole weekend and went to work on the Monday - BIG mistake! It was probably the hour's drive he has to work that did it but he swelled up and a lot of bruising came out, he ended up having a full week off work and he was in a lot of pain - he never takes tablets but was taking 600mg Ibuprofen and 500 mg co-codamol 3 times a day.
Sex was fine from the start, if a little uncomfortable for him the first few times, I was gentle with him! He did say ejaculating felt very strange but that was probably the swelling as he had problems urinating for 10 days or so too.
He had occasional aching for about 5 weeks and after 3/4 weeks he had the feeling of "fullness" that is mentioned when you read up on it - he said he felt like he needed emptying, even right after sex - that's just the epydidymis filling up and the sperm not being able to go anywhere.
His semen is definitely different now, a lot thinner and slightly less volume - we've never actually given it chance to see what it's like after more than a week however.
His testicles also hang differently , one is lower than it used to be, by a good inch.
Fingers crossed for a sperm-free sample!"There is a light that never goes out"0 -
Thanks for all the comments, keep them coming (LOL).
I notice its ladies talking about it, not the lads.

I'm still intact but a number of my peers had had it done, they are running a "quickest time from snip to sex" competition. The record claimed is about half an hour I think0

My lad said it was fine. Mind you, he's a dog
.
OP - everyone experiences pain differently, but I betcha the discomfort from a vas is nothing compared to the pain of childbirth......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

DH had his more years ago than I care to admit. In those days it was under a local, but at the hospital.
DH is a 'big man' ... height & weight wise... and the anasthetic did not take properly on one side.
Sadly he only found out as they made the incision. He claims his knees hit his forehead, but he does exaggerate
He sat & watched me have three babies - I still wish I'd been there to 'comfort' him. He says the nurses all had hysterics too!
Please don't let this put you off as I'm sure your GP will be more caring than the hospital was!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0
