OH had the laser treatment and was in a lot of pain afterwards, I can't remember what the exact complications were but it did involve being referred to a urologist and further investigation but it did clear up in the end.
We froze some of his sperm as we were/are still reasonably young - it's nice to know we still have options.
Isn't the WHOLE point of vasectomy that it's final to prevent you from having any more kids? What an odd thing to do.
It's like the ridiculous " but you might die and I might want kids with someone else" excuse trotted out by some men to get out of having a vasectomy. Well if a man is widowed young I would hope he was more concerned about looking after the children he has already got who have lost their mother rather than looking for someone else to breed with!"There is a light that never goes out"0 -

In your opinion.
I also find your side rant extremely odd and it has nothing to do with our reasons for OH having a vasectomy. We had the funds available to do it, and can now have a happy and healthy sex life together without worrying about an unplanned pregnancy, but also have the comfort of knowing that in our early thirties, if we want more children, we can.
I take it you have nothing constructive to offer the OP?0 -
Hubby had it done nearly 10 years ago, no problems. Best tip is to wear some tightish underwear afterward to keep things from moving to much - hubby wore a pair of speedo's which did the trick!0

What pill is the missus on ??
I was told I needed to come off the pill 'cos I'd been on it too long so we had a 2nd kid (!!) and then OH started the vasectomy route. Our GP referred him for counselling, he had counselling, then was referred back to his GP, GP made a hospital appointment, OH went in for pre treatment tests (for MRSA etc), then he went for the op - which was cancelled, then he got another appointment, more pre-op, went for the op and the Dr couldn't find his tubes !!! This all took about a year to get appointments etc.
Now if he wants to have the op he has to have a general anaesthetic.
So I went back to the doctors for options and a different doctor put me on the mini-pill. I was told I could be on it as long as I liked no worries.0 -
I didn't want any more kids since I've had my second one 14 years ago. I've asked to be sterilised, they refused, I was too young (24). Come back when you're 34  It never crossed my mind to ask my hubby to have a vasectomy. The way I see it, I am the one who doesn't want any more children so it's up to me to do something about it. I went on the pill in the meantime, luckily no problems with it. Went back to my GP when I was 34, and they refused again, but pushed instead for my hubby to have a vasectomy. This time they discouraged the use of the pill, one I have bad circulation and two I smoke. Hubby went for the op, despite my objections to it. After lots of messing about - they couldn't find his tubes
I went back to GP demanding the sterilisation, and after lots of "counceling" they agreed to it. But they tried every worst case scenario to try and discourage me from it.
Why are they dishing out vasectomies like sweeties, but get so horified on the thought of female asking for it? Made me feel like I a criminal.
In the end I got it, after I treathened that if I have another baby they will have to have me commited
Got sterilised two years ago now, and it's the best thing I ever did!0 -

You mean other than my previous two highly informative, personal experience posts?
I'm very surprised that any doctor would perform a vasectomy with the knowledge that you were freezing sperm as a back up as it goes completely against the reason for having one in the 1st place, in fact on most vasectomy websites, wanting such a back up is the main reason for not being suitable for consideration .
It's a bit like having another child just incase the 1st one needs a kidney or something, perhaps I'm alone in finding your reasoning very strange?"There is a light that never goes out"0 -
This is my last post on the matter, windswept, as I guess we will keep going round in circles on this...
I was lucky enough to have 2 beautiful children early on, we have no plans on having any more, but, if in 10 years time there is just one tiny niggling doubt that we made a mistake, that option is there. It's wonderful peace of mind for me. It's not to do with any of the reasons you have mentioned whatsoever. As we are not religious and are intentions are entirely genuine, I cannot see anything morally or ethically wrong with it. We are certainly not the only ones amongst our group of friends to have done the same thing.
Both procedures were done seperately. We never knew and were told it was not allowed/ advised. OH gave his sperm sample at a private clinic and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
I am happy to talk to you in pm if you wish but I won't be adding anything else here.0 -
MrsMuttley and I decided before we got married that we didn't want children but to be sensible we decided to carry on using conventional hormone contraceptives for the time being. Much the same as the OP her doctor started getting reluctant to issue any more pills so we decided it was time for the snip.
This had always been our plan but I'm sure every couple who decides they dont want children forever gets bombarded with "Oh you'll change your minds" Well we didn't change our mindsand 8 years later I booked myself in to Marie Stopes in Bristol for a private operation. Went up on the train in the morning did a bit of shopping and went to the clinic. Staff there were wonderful. We did get a raised eyebrow when we said we had no kids and "you do know this is permenant?" questions but nonetheless all conducted in a professional and efficient manner. Must admit there were a few minor nerves after all mother nature teaches you not to risk injury to your testicles doesnt she.
Left the clinic got to the train station and thats when things all started to go wrong.. You no doubt saw that summer two years ago when half of Gloucester and Wiltshire was under 3 feet of water? Well it was the first day of that. Crowds of people at the station, no trains, no information, what little information we got was all pretty wrong etc etc etc.
Eventually after about two hours (anestheic long gone) we were about to jack it in and go hire a car back to Exeter and to hell with the cost. and the train rolls up. we're on the wrong platform and by this time I'm down to a slow walk while everyone is running so we end up standing all the way back to Exeter. Get home quite a lot of blood in my shorts (thank goodness I usually wear black jeans.)
Scrotum swells up like a black and blue grapefruit and I get a minor infection. All sorted quickly and again very professional service with the aftercare and testing from Marie Stopes. I really can't reccomend them enough.
I do however have some minor pain as I have a big old bit of scar tissue in the scrotum. Nothing you would even think of taking a paracetemol for its like getting pricked with a rose thorn from time to time thats all.
Would I do it again? Yes. Tommorrow even with everything that went wrong. Permenant contaception is to be reccomended to anyone who doesn't want any(more) children and vasectomy is pretty simple if your luck holds out better than mine did :rotfl: Marie Stopes had no real waiting time either I could have been seen the week after I called to book if I had wanted.0 -
My oh had a vasectomy about 13 years ago as I was unable to take the pill due to age and smoking, it was the best thing ever. His was a local at our hospital and apart from bruising and pain he was fine after a couple of days.0
