I went private and had the 'no scalpel method' the actual procedure took about 15mins, Didn't feel a thing, only disconcerting thing was when I smelt a burning meat smell, and twigged it was me , had the next day off work, and was back the day after, pain was minimal and handled witha couple of paracetamol's.

The wound healed fully within 2 weeks, had great fun clearing the pipes as it were, and once the all clear arrived through the post, it was like a massive weight had been lifted off my shoulders as I was now a jaffa, and couldnt ever have kids.

Happy days indeed, In hindsight I should have had it done at 18 as that would have spared me some terrifying moments.

    I've been Money Tipped!
OH knows 2 men that have had babies post the big V. Cute babies, but we just don't want any more.

OH refuses to go through the pain to still be unsure if it will work.

We also know a family that have had a baby after wife was sterilised.

So we're stuck to condoms until I go through the change (another 15 yrs probably). Not so bad once you get used to it. Not reminding OH that condoms only have 99% success rate.

Also thinking about moving house as round here there's obviously a low success rate with ops!

I'm still intact but a number of my peers had had it done, they are running a "quickest time from snip to sex" competition. The record claimed is about half an hour I think

Very, very silly, as is cycling/running/football etc. - a nasty haematoma is nothing to be bragging about.
We waited 7 days till his stitches were removed as even involuntary reflex erections were painful for him at first, reassuring for me though!:p
You can't even see the scars on my hubby now.
As for failure/recanalisation - it varies with the method used - our consultant cut and buried the vas ends in the flesh of the spermatic cord - he stated he'd never had a failure in 1500 vasectomies , some doctors favour the open ended method or cauterize the ends.

I read a post somewhere else where a man thought it was 50 ejaculations to clear out the sperm - he was up to 40 in 3 weeks!!!!!! Of course he could possibly have been exaggerating.;)

It's a huge decision and I wouldn't try to sway anyone, either way it has to be a couples choice.

My other half had his nearly 2 years ago now. He had to be completely knocked out for it though because the doctor couldn't feel his tubes. There was a lot of 'rummaging' around and he was on crutches afterwards.
    Oh and it didn't work.

When hubby had it done I was so disappointed because it was not as painful as it should have been!

I had it doen about 5 years ago. The worst part is when they inject the anaesthetic, other than that it was no problem. I don't remember much pain or swelling afterwards. It certainly takes a weight off your mind once uyou get the official all clear.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • I had it done in November 2008

No problem - didn't hurt and suffered little swelling or bruising (I've a LOW pain threshold too)

Only downside is I'm still not been given the all clear yet.

OH had the laser treatment and was in a lot of pain afterwards, I can't remember what the exact complications were but it did involve being referred to a urologist and further investigation but it did clear up in the end.

We froze some of his sperm as we were/are still reasonably young - it's nice to know we still have options babywise.
