Had mum and dad visiting for the weekend, and as it was all fairly rainsoaked up here yesterday, we did a charity shop trawl in Huddersfield (had never been there before, we just picked a train destination at random). A few cool chazzas there (the Oxfam, which I'm not normally too impressed by, was stuffed with vintage gems, loads of retro tins etc and some great psychedelic clothes, but all characteristically expensive, so didn't buy anything this time).
Anyway, my parents bought all sorts (I got the habit from them), and I picked up a few things, and managed to find good things in my size (very skinny, which as a male charity shopper is not ideal, as most of the men's clothes tend towards the excessively voluminous):
Topman grey skinny jeans £2
Black Levi's 501s £2 (Urban Outfitters sells their second hand 501s for about thirty quid!)
Vintage blue and white lumberjack shirt £2
And, in a local hospice shop, an amazing coat- vintage grey Dunn & Co wool and cashmere with a mohair feel, unworn condition. It was priced £25, but I loved it- tried it on and it fit perfectly, and decided that while I would never normally pay that much in a charity shop, I wouldn't think twice about paying that anywhere else for a quality item, so went for it- at the counter the lady told me all the coats were halfprice- so it only cost me £12.50- ace! And the staff said they'd been admiring the coat I already had on (a much-beloved vintage brown Harris Tweed one that I picked up when I was a student, and has been keeping me warm ever since), and described me as a "well-dressed gentleman about town", which made me feel like a character from a Kinks song. Which was nice. They also made me promise to come back wearing my new coat, so I'll have to make another trip at some point. Next week I'm going to aim for the car boot (tried to get the parentals on board for a trip there today, but they went for the country house option instead, which was, admittedly, rather lovely)0 -
Just back from Redcar car boot and got a couple of bits, including a River Island denim jacket for 10p. The wife shouted at the husband for telling me it was 10p but when I offered to pay more she shouted at him again ... poor bloke.0

I've never been charity shopping in Huddersfield, will have to put it on my list! There's a fab market there too, not sure when it's held (possibly Saturday?) but it's great for fabric offshots and high street seconds. Will try find out what day it's on and let you know.
The coat sounds like a wonderful find, even better with the discount!
No second hand shopping for me today, but I've got orders from my bro to find a Polaroid camera for him - spotted one in my fave charity shop this week so hopefully it'll still be there on Saturday.0 -

......Every photo on my blog usually involves a mad scuffle to shift the piles of books and kick aside the general clutter......
Car boot sale disappointing today. Bought Burn before Reading DVD for son who collects the Coen Brothers films = 75p. Nothing else of any excitement at all. However, just sold a vintage leather travelling bag for £50 on ebay. Bought for only a £1 a couple of weeks ago with the idea to restore it but just haven't the time.Saving money right, left and centre0 -

So long as it isn't Lola!
Great find with the coat there!
Not much in the CS this weekend for me I'm afriad, although I did pick up a lovely Silver St Christopher Pendant & Chain which was boxed for £5... a friend of mine is off abroad to work for 6 months, so that'll be a nice pressie to give to her before she goes at the end of April!
Love reading all your finds!0 -
