GrammarGirl, that's brilliant, thanks! I haven't really explored North Leeds at all yet (I'm living in Bramley, to the west, and working in the city centre), but I shall definitely go and do some rummaging. My mum and dad are visiting this weekend, maybe I'll drag them to the car boot sale... (my mum is equally obsessed with charity shopping etc.). I've been to the Hyde Park area, but only in the dark so far, to go to the ace little Picture House Cinema.

Goan- you're absolutely right, the 9-to-5ing does not suit me at all, but I'm consoling myself with the fact that it's only temporary (I definitely wouldn't have taken it on otherwise!) and I can save up a nice bit of money (I'm hoping to go back to uni next year, and I'm also aiming for some kind of epic summer roadtrip!). It's quite a shock to the system only having the weekends and evenings free, though- one of the great things about being self-employed is making your own hours, and being able to make plenty of time for things like chazza shopping.

Oh, and that diary blog post was lovely- incredibly sad, but an amazing capturing of one person at a moment in time- I think that's what I like the most about old things, is the direct link that they have to someone as they were at a certain moment, someone who may be long gone; part of the fun with vintage items is imagining just who this person might have been, and how the item you've found was once a part of their life.

Doh! Meant to post my boot sale bargains from this morning's trip to the countryside.

1970's "Kati at Laura Philips" maxi dress (very Little House On The Prairie) 40p
Vintage biscuit tin packed with buttons and broken jewellery £2
Kitsch plaster figure of the Virgin Mary £1
1970's psychedelic knitting bag £3 (with some groovy pom-pom braid inside)
Cream leather clutch with lace front 50p
Navy blue ankle boot wellies 50p

I'll pop 'em on the blog later.

Thanks to a kind blog reader we've discovered that Laura was born in 1906 and at the time of the 1911 census was living with her parents and 8 siblings. Molly hadn't been born at that point.

Goan, thanks sooooo much for sharing that story. It's a wonderful piece of history but so sad.

I've got to be up early if I want to go booting this weekend - DS football training has changed to 10am instead of 9 (I usually drop him and DH off and pop along to the booty while they're training - get an hour and a half). I've got to be back by 9.30 this time though so it's going to be a 7am start !

Jesa, hope you and your family are okay. Sending you love at this difficult time. xx

Today I went a little out of my way to visit some new charity shops and was utterly shocked at the prices! In one particular shop I found a Ted Baker bag (small, across body style - granted it was leather but still very tiny!) for £15, a suede M&S jacket (outdated shape) for £25 and a hideously bobbled, outdated Karen Millen dress for £10! Couldn't believe my eyes. Needless to say, I came home empty handed!

i'm getting a little addicted to this second hand shopping lark - I'm having a week off and have been in a charity shop almost every day! Yesterday I came across a DCUK carved wooden duck but at £5.99 it was a little too much for me. I walked away but when I looked last night they retail for £22! Went back this morning to buy it but missed out by 15 minutes. So annoyed! Never mind - I did manage to get a rose printed china teapot and teacup set, so not all was lost! :)

Goanmad your blog gets better and better. Not just for the clothes you pick up for a pittance and wear with such an individual style, but your home. It's just how I'd like my home to be, filled with interesting and quirky objects but not to the point of saturation.

But please tell me you have a glory hole somewhere for all the stuff that needs restoration, ebaying, throwing out or haven't a clue what do with. The combination of this thread and your blog is threatening my entire declutter operation at chez lulu!! :o
