I was there too :D but I didn't get anything worth mentioning, I've found the quality of the tat on offer has gone way downhill. I'm a high quality tat girl!

Seaham reopens tomorrow too, and Chester le Street and Willington! Decisions, decisions!

  • Hi all - Very little about here recently, there seem to be many fewer donations to the local CSs, but last week got a NWT John Lewis cashmere jumper for £4.49, and a 1960s faux leopard coat for £10 (it's in perfect condition, even has original buttons!)

Then to one indoor CB yesterday morning, very few clothes there, but picked up:

small carved wooden bowl - 20p
a glass vase, possibly Murano, blue over red - £2.00
    a silk chiffon scarf - 50p
    a 1st-edition Georgette Heyer novel - 30p
a Good Housekeeping "World Cooking" book (published 1964 and about 600 pages of recipes) 50p
and the star buy - a Sheffield Plate 3-candle stick, classic georgian style, I've checked the mark and the factory went out of business in 1964

Then to my local CS later -
a poker work flower holder, very Arts and Crafts, about 1900 - £1.50
another scarf - this one is 1950s and VERY kitsch, bullfighters and flamenco dancers... £1.00
a pair of Principles jeans which not only fit perfectly, but which the previous owner had very obligingly taken up for me to just the right length - £2.50
a 1950s white gold plated ladies' cocktail watch, winds up and is keeping good time - £1.00

    Two carboots today and fab bargains. My best were;

Two dozen very old Ladybird books for 70p the lot. Half in pristine condition. Experts will know that these fetch £10 each on ebay. One reached £30! But I'll keep these as they'll become rarer in the future.
Gant lambswool jumper never worn for 50p - son quickly took
Nike tshirt 10p - again son took and was very pleased.

My very best? Burberry pink and check woman's shirt appears unworn for ..............10p!!! Bargain of the century!

Passed by a Vivienne Westwood bag that probably came free with perfume. Seller asking £2 and the same on ebay recently sold for £25. I have too much to put on ebay though so not too peeved.

I was going to catch up on my ironing this morning and so pleased I made the effort
Saving money right, left and centre

I did very well at the car boot but on the downside i had quite a lot of stuff nicked even though I was being very careful. In the first mad rush a dealer actually walked off with my most expensive item and disappeared into the crowd, blooming upset I was about that as well as I couldn't be sure which one actually took ti so I couldn't even chase after them. That was £15 down before I even started.

I bought a lovely almost new high street faux fur jacket this morning for a fiver but I got it home and it makes me look huuuuuuge! I look like a gorilla in it (its black thick and chunky). I paid £5 for it so am gutted. Will have to put it on eBay and hope to get my money back

Not a great deal else - some nice clothes for 50p/£1 each and a lovely leather bag for £3
Not been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/155

I've not been to a boot sale in ages, but went to one this morning in a neighbouring village. I was browsing through some books, when I heard a dealer haggling with the stallholder over some pweter plates. I love pewter, and luckily for me the dealer walked away without buying. The stallholder told me that the dealer had said they wore worth £12 each, and dated from 1890-1930. I was persuaded (against all my vows of de-cluttering and stopping ebaying) to part with what I told my oh was a fiver (I actually paid £15 total, but I did get the book I'd initially picked up thrown in for free!) for five pewter plates. I've wasted an hour or so off and on through the day and finally located the maker and production era. Turns out they were made a hundred years earlier than the dealer thought, sometime between 1829 and 1837, and, on average seem to get £20-50 each on ebay. So that's not just one vow of abstinence broken (no buying any more 'tat') but also a second (no more f*rting about on ebay). I'll probably save them for the winter, though if there's a free listing day between now and the end of Easter I might put them on then - re-enactment societies might want something nice to brighten up the summer festivals!!

3 car boots - big box of lego for £5 (children very happy as it had a skeleton head in it!) and a Cath Kidston cup and saucer for £1. Must try harder as you lot are brilliant!

went to a very, very small bootsale in the village where I live. Didnt really see anything at first but picked up a handbag that looked ok. It had two dangling brass coloured hearts on it, one of which was diamante studded but two of the little stones were missing. Because of that I put it back down but the lady on the stall saw me looking at it and said I could have it for 50p. I thought bit was worth taking at that price. Turns out to be a leather Suzy Smith bag. I removed the diamante heart, gave it a bit of a clean and it looks good as new, not bad for 50p!
