Bought a beautiful burgundy 100% silk dress very similar to this one from Topshop, but with black buttons going all the way down and a bit more 'flarey' at the bottom for £4.50 from Cancer Research.:T

It's to sell on so I won't divulge exactly what, but I've bought no end of stuff from bootsales in the past week. If you can find an indoor one, particularly, there seems to be a lot of good stuff around.

I'm never keen on indoor car boot sales. The ones around here are very expensive as the sellers are warm and cosy and in no rush to sell their stuff (which at our local venue is mostly Primark or New Look.)

Most of my stuff is sold on. I don't think there'd be room for me in our house if I kept it all!
  • I know exactly the sort you mean, for some reason the local indoor ones here are very eager to sell, I've had a riot :D Hope everyone else finds some bargains soon.

Thats beautiful! Lucky you. I've got a thing for this shape dress at the moment as it hides all manner of sins from christmas over-eating :D
I bought one cheap on the high street and am planning on customising it a little. Will post a pic when its done
Not been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/155

Anyone know of where to get a decent 1940s dress from? I'm looking for genuine if possible?!! I can't find anywhere and am based in Nottingham...really want to buy and not hire!! Got all of the accessories just no dress, for a 1940s themed party!!
    Thanks :)

If you search on ebay using the following "1940's dress -style" you'll find 129 original dresses listed (with the modern repro's filtered out). There's also Etsy.
  • On Saturday I bought a complete vintage tea set, which I then promptly left round my parents . I've now got it back and it's even prettier than I remember - from the look of it I doubt it's ever been used!

I've put a few pictures of it on my blog if anyone is interested.

Had a good day today, got a Singer treadle sewing machine for £10, it's only a plain oak type cupboard one, serial number shows its a 201k made in 1940, seems to work, haven't threaded it up yet so fingers crossed !!
Also got a coffee pot for £1 that matches the Alpine white tea set I got last week but even tho it is the exact flower pattern, its made by sylvac not woods & sons ?????

ETA found an online copy of the instruction book, threaded up and works like a dream, well chuffed !!
  • I've well in one of my local CS recently -

    F & F grey cashmere jumper (this year's style)
to go with it, grey/blue wool M & S trousers
a 1960s black (real) fur designer hat, in perfect condition

and the real stars - a Paul Smith waistcoat in perfect condition (if it fits me, the man in my life isn't going to get it.....!)
and a 1950's or 1960's travelling combination clothes brush and wooden coathanger - it's jointed in the middle, with the brushes at each end, and a fastener so that it can be used as a hanger, or folded to be used as a brush! Labelled for Austin Reed, Regent Street, and still in it's original box and carry bag.

Total for all those - £11.50!
