  • I managed to kit my children out with their winter wardrobe today. Cardigans etc for the princely sum of £20. Couple of pairs of trousers too and a couple of jumpers for my son. About 10-15 items.
  • April, I saw a 'chicken' in the window of our local charity shop a few wks ago. He's not there anymore & I'm kicking myself for not going in & asking about him. £3 is a bargain, well done! :)
  • A Crew men's checked shirt for £3.00
    An Autograph from M & S dress for £5.00
A silver plated bon bon dish with handle for £5.00
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

    one life, live it!

I don't think £4/5 is expensive if they are decent brands. If we're talking about Primark, George, New Look then yes I guess it is quite expensive. Obviously for buyers the cheaper the better though :)

Got a gorgeous puff sleeved/long sleeve knitted dress from the charity shop this week for £6. Its now in the wash and I'm looking forward to wearing it soon as its got very cold all of a sudden and a new Ikea bath mat for £1.50

Also bought a lovely 60s dress for £3 which reminded me of Goanmad - will try and get a photo of it and post it.
Not been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/155

I can't wait to see the new dress, JesaRose.

Quite agree with you, £5 is fine for a good make or something in "as new" condition. Some people tend to forget that charity shops exist to raise money for good causes first and foremost.

Two jumble sales and the thursday car boot sale (weather permitting) to look forward to tomorrow. :j
  • Our local charity shops are so expensive average price for clothes is £4 - £5 which I would not mind paying if it was something that was fairly new and I really liked it, so dont get to get many bargains at ours, however I am venturing to the next village today on my day off so will update later if I pick anything up there are about 6 shops so might be able to get one thing if nothing else.

I mean everything is generally £4/£5 no matter what brand it is ie Asda George - TU - Primark - M & S, New Look, nothing is under £4. Went to all 7 of them and picked up only a book, nothing to report, unless people are not getting rid of decent clothes nowdays.

Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200
Grocery Challenge £200 pm Jan £0/£200
January no spend days - 1/31

A lot of charities are reporting low quality and quantities of donations at the moment so that probably is it pink. I don't think it makes much sense to charge the same for everything though no matter what brand. Good if you get a good make but then the cheaper stuff isn't going to sell at that price if people know they can get better for the same price, for some anyway.

Very jealous of you Goanmad - I will be thinking of you rummaging while I at work wishing I was at a jumble sale

  • Popped into CS to drop a bag of stuff in yesterday, had a quick rummage, and found a gents Burberry Prorsum wool overcoat (vintage) for a tenner. A good five minutes' work, if I do say so myself!

I'm seeing that at my local charity shops too. The last few times I've been the only items I've liked have been ones I previously owned and donated! :rotfl: I have a lovely La Redoute mac coat and black faux fur shrug I originally wanted to sell but I think I'd rather the charity shop had them now. Will be my good deed for the day and hopefully they'll make a bit of money out of them.

Yes, I do so well with bargains at my local Salvation Army that I buy good quality clothes at jumble sales, wash and iron them and donate them to the shop where I know they can make more money. What goes around comes around.

Just back from car boot sale:

Men's vintage 1970's wide lapelled burgundy leather jacket (think Brad Pitt in Fight Club) unworn and immaculate £3
    5 x 1970's handmade gent's waistcoats £5 the lot
Blauplunkt boxed graphic equaliser (it works) £2
Carhartt denim shirt/ 3 pairs 1950's dress gloves/ 1970's mirrored silk hippy suntop - £1 for the lot

And off the 20p man (yes, everthing really is only 20p):
    1980's pink leather "Midas" stilettoes
"Brevitts of Bond Street" 1960's leather knee-high boots
Equity ladies' geeky lace-up leather brogues
1970's red tartan high waisted wool flares
    1970's polka dot mini skirt
    1960's psychedellic shift dress
1970's crimplene midi dress (fits like a glove)
    1980's floral peplum jacket

Two hours till the jumble sale :j
