I too totally agree with the way banks are going.I think it will save a lot of heartache and repossession in years to come.I remember each time my mum bought a new house her having to have a meeting with the manager.
I do think that every bank will go down the charging per day for going into the O/D as well...A+L already do it at 50p per day...
Don't know whether this is any use to any of you but DD had the letter and she has a £200 o/d and is permanently in it.She wouldn't change banks.....so she has upgraded to Halifax Ultimate Reward.....at £12.50 p/m...this has a free up to £300 O/D...so though costing her more than the couple £s int it is now and the up to £31 per month it costs her £12.50...info maybe of use to someone that can't get out of the o/d at the moment.

Once I start you can't shut me up it seems! Re the overdrafts - my A & L account is 50p a day for any amount overdrawn, but maximum charge of £5 a month. So if you have a huge OD it works out cheap, but if you are only in it by a few quid it's a total rip off!
Debt at highest Nov '06 £17,822.98
Debt at LBM Nov '07 £14,231.63

DEBT FREE as of 01/01/09 now I have savings!!

Thanks I know that as I use A+L myself for my main current account.
DD didn't want to change bank so this was the better option for her.I agree those £1 a day charges are ridiculous and if you have a arranged £2500+ o/d it's £2 a day.
I've yet to get DD to see things my way..lol

Isn't odd wallpaper and rooms painted in several different shades of the same colour entirely normal then?

Changing Rooms used to call it a feature wall rather than the "!!!!!! we've run out of the left over stuff we found in Grannys old attic we'll slap the stuff from your mums loft up instead" wall.

I too can join the "brown velour sofa from Granny" club......We had the full three piece suite in our very diddy studio-type starter home :p

It is a very exclusive club don't you know :rotfl:

Whilst I was entirely grateful for the eclectic mix of donated furniture we were given to fill our rather baren rooms my fondest memories are of the his and hers deck chairs in front of the telly on an upturned tea chest cooking in an assortment of camping pan s in an oven patched directly into the main fuse box and balanced on top of my dads old black and decker workmate.

Not so desirable was the previously worn nylon neglige my mother-in-law thought might come in handy or her really manky old towels, the ones she used on the dog. We might have been skint and desperate but we did have some standards.

the closest i have ever came to a new suite is the showroom one ...thats the one we bought in jan with borrowed money from mil £1200 i plan on it lasting the rest of our lives and if son decides to have children well they will inherit it when i die ....wouldve given it to son when he finally gets settled into a house he feels safe in ..but i am sure i will still need it then .... i have pictures on my walls that are 20 years old ...i dont have them there because they are worth a fortune or anything ... but because i cant justify to myself throwing them out and buying new ones ... i think i might be a bit step toe and son lol
