evening
Lauren you have my sympathy, I handed in nearly 11,000 words of dissertation today which I finished at 6am. Then I had to start, finish and submit another 6 page assignment this afternoon! Now it's beer o'clock so I bid you all farewell! The size of a glory hole in an open pit should not be greater than the cross-section of the haul trucks that dump into it. Otherwise, you are bound to lose a truck, sooner or later. Source: Sergio Cha

Hi all, thanks for the fab help re bills, has given me lots to think about and I am planning to do it next summer:jJust want to get debts cleared and get rid of anything I don't need, I have enough in storage to practically furnish a house anyway:o so am going to get rid of clothes I won't wear, toiletries and make up I won't use and generally run everything down to a minimum so I can fit it in my car in one or two trips. Am now utterly determined to meet my 20k target as that will mean everything paid off and some savings as a cushion.
Went to vote earlier, was very busy. Am watching the election coverage now, not in work until 12 tomorrow so can stay up late, have wine and snacks on hand:DPay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -
Sincere sympathy on the car - I'm having the last glass of £3.59 & perfectly-palatable-thank-you wine to help you get over the shock. Ok, it's helping me more than you, but I am thinking of you with each sip.
Thanks Lula, I knew I could rely on you:A:D Am also having wine to help me recover:) It seems to be helping:DPay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -
Hey guys, wine & snacks being deployed here too
Well done on your dissertation TDQ :A now you can definintely .
Am in a mood tonight; wardrobe was delivered at 8.15 am, by 9.30 I was wishing I'd hired a-man-who-can to put it together for me & cursing the fact that being DFW means doing stuff alone to save pennies .
By 10am I was wondering if it was too early to open a bottle of wine, by 11 I was ready to just set fire to the damn thing .
By 1pm I had managed to assemble the thing & wow it is both huge :j & aesthetically pleasing :j but I cannot for the life of me get the doors on. I do not understand the hinges, have tried you tube & various other sites - the simple fact is : two full sized people are required to do that bit - preferably one of which hasnt lost the will to live.
DD did her best bless her - she was off school so that the hall could be transformed into a polling station - although it was abundantly clear that the local phone box would have sufficed in terms of space required :rotfl:
Anyway, one of the doors feel on my head & it really knocked me sideways. I felt all dizzy for a bit & now have thumping headache & would actually quite like to punch someone. Anyone actually. Very very hard .
The wine is mellowing me out & I'm not sure if peanuts count as carbs or not, but I'm troughing them by the handful. Not had any bread or pasta or potatoes though so will expect to be 2 stone lighter tomorrow morning.
Have finished home-job for the week but have to go into work job tomorrow& am half wondering whether to offer to shag the company idiot just so he can help put the wardrobe doors on
Hmmm I must be pre M T ...
Anyway, I really only popped in to say sarah - when you get your own place make sure that either :
1) It has built in wardrobes or
2) There is a man-who-can available to do all small chores.
I need a crutain rail put up but this requires drilling into a concrete lintel & my Dad will only let me borrow his 1960's hand drill on the basis that when I borrowed his hedge trimmer I ended up trimming the cord as well & have therefore proved myself unsafe & untrustworthy with power tools :rotfl:
This doesnt mean that he offers to help though.

:eek::eek: Hope you are okay Lula, that sounds awful.:( I know what you mean about the hinges, I bought a wooden storage box a few years ago and had to attach the hinges five times before I got them the right way, it was a complete nightmare and induced many many tears:( Would your dad be able to do it for you? Does dd1 have a boyfriend who could be utilised?Anyway, I really only popped in to say sarah - when you get your own place make sure that either :

I had decided that as long as it has a bed, wardrobe, washing machine and sofa I should be able to move right in. Hadn't though about fitted wardrobes, curtain rails ect.:( So much to think about.:( Will also need some bookcases constucted, internet sorted, phone line etc:(. I just hope I have managed to find a man by then.:DPay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -
Sorry, didnt meant to worry you about living in your own place
I'm sure you will be fine as most rented places come with simple things like curtain rails already in place - I removed the ones that were here when I moved in & have been living with the cheap temporary one for years now.
I must be going through some bizarre life change as I just want to get rid of so much stuff at the moent. I'm sick of shuffling all the time.
Too grumpy now so am going to bed before I come up with any more humiliating ideas to get diy doneat least I can blame the head injury
Enjoy your lie in, I cant wait until saturday for mine :j
night night

Sarah a boyfriend would complain re an Ikea trip/build them in his own sweet time whereas my Gay Husband loved the whole experience and had them up in half an hour and the only cost to myself was an Ikea breakfast. Simples!'The road to a friends house is never long'0

I eventually managed to get some successful bids on eBay and now have two fine hanging rails to replace the one that is currently in a supported relationship/leaning at a perilous angle on the shoe rack. I would have tested out the potential of an OH to build the rails, but previous experience has taught me that the simplest course of action is to do it myself. This shouldavoid bloodshed, protracted reading of instructions, and much consultation on exactly what the instructions might mean. OH, despite his many lovelinesses, was completely bypassed by the practical gene.
So expect much clanging from middle England tomorrow morning, when OH is at work and I will have the landing to myself for assembling things. By the end of the morning I shall either have finished building said clothes rails, or be here, clutching a medicinal glass of wine, and seeking empathy (Lula), loan of a Husband (Souk), consultation (eco) or sympathy (others) as I wrestle with the allan key/screwdriver as appropriate.
I also need to confess to treating the new rails to a garment or two (pretty stripey cardi and absolutely gorgeous linen top with cut out daisies around the hem) at TK Maxx yesterday.
Inspired by the shabby chic thread and much feathering/rearranging of nests in these parts, I have bought a lovely writing desk on eBay which is going to be my dressing table. Just need to sand it back and paint it cream, so that's next week's project.
Good luck on the new place Sarah...and it won't be long for makeup now either - shall we get ready for a virtual housewarming or two?0
