Single and in Debt Part 3- The problem of surplus and excess women

Only popping in briefly because I have the mother of all headaches
(one where my face actually hurts aswell!? Kind of like sinus pain, except I don't have a cold )
I'm liking your plan Sarahb and I was going to give you some numbers, but it looks like you have had excellent advice from makeup, Souk and Shoe Gal. Mine is a rather old little two bedroomed house anyway, so probably quite different from what you'd be looking to rent?
By chance, I have read on another thread that there is an ebay free listings weekend this weekend, so I'm thinking of putting a few things up. Seems like as good a time as any... Does anybody know of somewhere I can sign up to that would tell me when the free listings days are though?
I'm still not sure who I'm going to vote for, so I'm currently doing a little research on the BBC website :undecided

About 20 pages worth of crash diets... most involving alcohol
Now that's my kind of diet
I never had a weight problem while living on caffeine, alcohol, chocolate & nicotine ... but I wasnt very healthy or much fun to live with
slimfast works, jucing works, in fact any form of deprivation will work, in the short term. When you stop the deprivation & start to eat normally again the weight will go back on. Going to the gym 3 times a week meant I could eat whatever I wanted.
Girls, it's simple ; we have to eat less & move more.
Having said that I am about to cut out bread & pasta for a week , just to see if it actually works.0 -
Hey sarah,
re living costs :
I have 2 bedrooms -
- Water £22 a month,
- TV Licence £12.20
- Tv Package, Telephone & Internet approx £40 a month - depending on calls made
- Contents Insurance was less than £30 for the year with £19 Quidco cashback
I save £50 a month towards Gas & the same towards Electricity then the excess saved over the summer months will go towards the winter bill.
No tumble drier or dishwasher, but have Gas central heating & refuse to be cold or have cold baths
Still not had my revised Council tax bill, but would expect it to be between £70 & £80 including the single occupancy discount ...
Hmmm it seems that most of my monthly outgoings are not on utilities ... it's clearly much cheaper not to have a child, cat, car, dodgy eyesight, film rental, relatives, clothes or food

gwen, i don't think there is anywhere you can sign up for free listing reminders, but they always have threads on the ebay board on here if there are and also ebay email you in advance.
Lula, thanks for the info, am furiously doing sums but realistically it will be next summer which is okay, I can stick NM for that long as I have an end date in mind and it will give me time to sell just about everything I don't need and pay things off. I don't want to go into the first flat I see without doing a bit of research so am happy to hang fire but I have decided it is the way forward for me, it is going to take me a while to save for a house and I may as well do it somewhere I feel happy even if it does take me a bit longer. I am feeling a bit too old for a houseshare:(.

Oh, gwen - that heaches sounds awful :grouphug: hope that's not a regular occurence for you ?
sarah - quite agree about not moving to first place you see & that just knowing you will definitely be leaving Noddy behind you will keep you motivated.
Sincere sympathy on the car - I'm having the last glass of £3.59 & perfectly-palatable-thank-you wine to help you get over the shock. Ok, it's helping me more than you, but I am thinking of you with each sip.
I am expecting my wardrobe to be delivered any time between 7am  & 1pm tomorrow & have been told the drive will call an hour before he arrives ... just bet I get the 6am phone call.
I plan to head to the local shops to search for some dye for the rugs. I also need to find a little bedside chest & bookcase so am off to hunt on ebay for treasure.
Buffy - did you see the Alys Fowler food & flowers garden programme tonight ? I think she's great, I want to be that slim while eating lavender biscuits & would love to have her garden too.0 -
Hey all, hope you have all voted?! I'm knackered. Been up since 5.30 and had a horrendous day at work!!! Going to vote soon (my mate is taking me after his work) and then off to bed.
Hope your days are all going well. X'The road to a friends house is never long'0 -
Hey Souk - yes, just got back. I always wish they gave you a sticker or something as a reward!!!
Lula - I watched a bit of that too - would love to live like that. Making my own champagne and stuff! And turning up at friends houses with bunches of herbs...lovely!
I'm off to Wales tomorrow. Staying two nights in a youth hostel and intending on walking up Snowdon on Saturday!
I'm hoping for good weather though! Won't be best pleased to do it all in rain....
It's an early start thought with an 8am train and normally I like to stay up and watch the election results come in..hmmmm. Not sure what to do!I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills
And feed my interiors addiction0 -
Ugh... I swear this assignment is going to kill me. I will be the girl found frozen to her laptop with a look of crazed despair all over her tired face.... yucky.

Sarah, I think you can check English council tax bandings here http://www.voa.gov.uk/cti/InitS.asp?lcn=0. It's definitely the biggest cost! I pay £95 with single person's discount (includes water in my authority). I pay £50 for gas and electricity for a two bed. Cotents £20 (I have a lodger, but it's nearly time to renew...) internet £7.50 and BT £11.something-or-other + TV license. I try to keep a petty cash tin £10 for things like communal cleaning, windows and for whatever I need house-wise (binbags and stuff). Though in reality I raid that constantly
.
I don't know what the housing is like in your area, but if you try to go for a mid-terrace or middle flat, you'll save loads on heating too (I have folk above and below and to one side - though hearing other folk's tellys can be a bit ). And in my experience of renting, avoid white-meter heating and storage heating (unless you know how to work them properly!) and check the windows for drafts. Sorted.
Getting furniture etc these days is so much easier with freecycle and ebay. When I moved in to my place here, I only had to buy crockery and cutlery. Every-one at work who was throwing anything out suddenly got in touch with me - I furnished a two-bed flat within a month! OK, perhaps not to my taste, but at least it means I can slowly replace things when I can actually afford to!
I'm going to watch the channel 4 election coverage - might be a bit more bearable! And if it looks like the tories are leading, I think I'll just go to bed and cry.

Still waiting for my mate to take me to the polls!!!
Sarah, thanks to Lula I got contents insurance for £3.24 a month with £30 Cashback from Quidco. What a blinking bargain. Also my telly licence is £28 but will go down to £11 after 6 months. I'd love Sky...but have a cheap Lovefilm package at the mo as it's too dear. only watch obscure stuff/old stuff anyway. Bro and I have chatted about this and agree it's mad to pay for a package with all super duper new films when all he wants is anoraky documentaries...and all I want is old UK GOLD stuff, so neither of us have it in our flats.'The road to a friends house is never long'0
