I second the cocktails, although I'd probably wouldn't be able to drink many.
Staying in tonight, going out early walking tomorrow, going to do a bit of gardening in the afternoon, booked some days off work next week, think I need a break, going to start decorating kitchen and finish it when I have a week off in June.0 -
Hi
I'm so glad I found this thread.
I'm 35 and since going to university have spent money like it was going out of fashion. Then last year the landlady of the place where I was living decided to sell the flat and I had to find somewhere to live really quickly. I put all my stuff into storage and moved into a small room in a shared place as a temporary measure while I looked for somewhere better.
I went from paying £1250 plus bills a month on rent to £425 a month all inclusive. And I've stayed there. I realised as a single girl I didn't need a big flat as I really only use the place for sleeping. Also, because I have very little room I've cut back on buying stuff that I don't need. And I don't treat myself to a couple of glasses of wine every night as the fridge isn't conveniently at hand!
In a year I've managed to save just over £10,000 but still managed to live a decent lifestyle.
I've got a terrible credit rating and I always thought that I would never be able to buy my own place but even now that looks as though it could be a possibility although probably won't happen for another 5 years.
When I first moved into my room it was my pride that suffered the most - I felt as though it was a real step backwards. And even now I still find myself looking at the property listings for places to rent.
I sometimes felt that I was the only single person in the world who wasn't living independently so it's great to see that there are others. I just need to keep saving - there are so many times when I feel like blowing the money I've saved as I still worry that I'll never be able to get a decent deposit together and nobody will lend to me.Savings: £37,354/£75,0000 -
Hey bluebird, this is a great thread! Some of us live alone in our own places, some share with family, some rent alone, some with others but we are all trying to get out of debt and have a better future.
I rent alone in an expensive pad (not half as much as years though) and love it. XXX'The road to a friends house is never long'0 -
I know there are still many ways I can cut down. I need to stop smoking and I spend far too much on lunch every day. And if I have money left at the end of the month I will spend it just for the sake of it.Savings: £37,354/£75,0000

Hello gorgeous girls , TDQ & any 'token new guys' out there
I have wine & bad clothes :j/:eek: but this decorating / revamping old shabby stuff into chic / refurbishing what I already have malarkey is very moneysaving; for the last 2 weekends I have just worn scruffy painting clothes thereby reducing the need to do loads of washing
Actually that's a load of balls; I've been spending like a crazy lady :shhh:
New lamps & shades = £12.49, mini chest of drawers = £34.99, dye to revamp rugs = £11.00 :rotfl:
Hardly big spending but I may as well confess that I have already failed to live up to my own challenge of existing on £200 a monthcurrent total is £226.09
Oh dear.
Oh well, lets all have another glass of wine
I havent bought any clothes this week :Abut did have a manic moment when I bid on 4 separate cardi s & a pair of shoesthey all end within the next 3 days so just hoping I dont get all competitive & start upping my bids just so I win ... it has been known

Gah! I weighed myself yesterday morning and I had lost a pound:j. I then went out for lunch and dinner and weighed myself again this morning and I have put on 3lbs! In one day! The same thing happened last week.
I think I might have to change my weighing day to Saturdays.
I have a few things ending on ebay tonight and am currently writing the listings for some more to put up today as it's free listings day. I have almost reached the end of all the toiletries now which I am a bit sad about:o as although the listing and photographing was tedious I found it quite relaxing to wrap up little things into neat parcels.:) I am going to move onto clothes now which are a pain to photograph and parcel up.:(
I have also had a big tidying session this morning and I don't have as many clothes to sell as I thought, a combination of overestimating how much I have and not wanting to part with some of them. Also the few clothes I have sold so far have not made much despite being new with tags so I am going to see this as a decluttering exercise with a bit of money coming in as a reward, rather than as a way of making a huge amount of cash.
I am beginning to see a result with the tidying so am going to spend today doing some more decluttering between the listings. Oh joy! But it will get me in the right frame of mind re being ready to move so it will be worth it in the end:).
P.S. welcome to bluebird00 :hello: Am hugely impressed with your savings:).Pay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0
