    Hi Secondchance,
I know how you feel. At the moment we are living in a house that needs work. The area is ok but its far from my 'dream' house.
Last month we foun d a house we loved. 5 bedrooms, 3 receptions, 3 cellar rooms. Just what we'd always wanted. It needed a lot of work on decor but that was it.
We put in an offer. it was on the market for £295k. We offered £275k. Our current mortgage is just under £160k. A huge jump, but we have no other debts, hubby on a big wage. Mortgage aggreed.
Thankfully our offer was rejected. I mean that cause I just don't think I wanted to be tied to my house. Which is what getting a huge mortgage usually means.
I've decided to pay what we would have paid on the new mortgage on our current one and if I can convince myself, try and get some of the work on the house done.
Your daughter is just a baby, you have a few years yet to worry about getting her into the right school. You could paid off a decent amount on your mortgage by then and have more equity.

Ulitimately its up to you and your hubby.....but life is short. It would be a shame to not get to live it to the full cause of mortgage repayments...
  • Hey I just read through all this and just wanted to say good luck with whatever you decide to do. But a house isn't everything, we lived in a tiny house all the time me and my 2 sisters were growing up, but that meant my parents could afford to give us great memories, they didnt worry (too much!!) when we wanted to go on expensive school holidays, when we chose to go to grammar school with its expensive school uniform or when we went on day trips. I'm not saying I was spoilt (well I probably was a bit) but at the end of the day there's more to life than being tied to a house and I don't want you to end up resenting it when you have to struggle to make ends meet.
    Good luck
