Do you work in a children's hospice? I think you should be very proud of yourself, it must be a tough job.

I feel that we've battered you down too much about the finances, things WILL be ok because you'll make them ok for your family whatever needs to be done. The main thing is you're aware of where you've been going wrong in the past and you're taking responsibility now.

    Lots of luck
  • Yes, I also take my hat off to you for working with poorly children. I couldn't do it, and applaud those who can!:T :T :T :T :T

    Re; your finances.
Was just wondering what imput your husband has on the finances, I know he has been a star re your first cc hiccups. Has he any thoughts on finances for the future, your new mortgage and outgoings etc?

Regarding maternity leave, You will need to prepare well in advance before you begin a new pregnancy, there is no way you will manage on £106 a week for 20 weeks, that 5 months. Once you get a little straighter you will need to start a new baby fund.
I am glad you have realised this.;)

Don't worry you will get there.

    Hello,

I have just thread though this thread, and i know i am going to get slated probably now, :o but this is only my opinion, I know the other posters have theirs too. And i don't want to upset you or anyone else.

I think that taking out another £117k on a mortgage over 25 years is ludicricy!
The interest on top of this would be approx £90k, obviously depends on int rates but thats the lowest approx figure. So thats approx £207k extra!

Ok you are on fair wages, but you haven't completed your family either yet. We have 3 small children, and wife works nights too, but with each child the demand on home life/worklife/childcare becomes a touch more intense.

Our wages a similar to yours - you earn a couple of hundred more, and our mortgage makes me feel ill and its £386 a month._pale_

I really do hope that you can do it, and will do it though. I have read your posts and you have been brutally honest about the way you have spent in the past, this i admire you for:T (not the spending, but the honesty!), but i am just wondering what makes you think you can control it now, and forever?

    Good luck for the future!

    Hi secondchance

What noone has said get is that it is not too late to pull out of your purchase. Obviously you will have to pay sols and you won't get your app and val fees back but that is small fry compared to what it appears that you are getting into. How big is your house now? I have an 11 month old in a 2 bed flat and we don't need any more room although I would love a nice house.

I have almost come to the decision myself that we cannot afford another baby. While I get 12 wks full pay whilst on mat leave, you will have to consider 2 lots of childcare, even if it is only afterschool care and then all of the other costs on top. Are you able to get employers childcare vouchers where you don't pay tax on the first £55 per wk? or your OH? or both?

In terms of your baby...I guess you are already using tesco/lidl nappie and not pampers/ huggies? If your LO is still on formula and is over 6 months, followon milk is £2 cheaper and Jacob has noticed no difference. Buy the milk from boots as you earn points on it. If over 1 then change onto cows milk as obviously cheaper too. Make your LOs meals, ie no jars as they are a rip off. Try carboots/ charity shops for your LOs clothes. I pay 25p for any piece of clothing for my son and that is GAP/ next etc.
