i think you've misconstrued my comments. i'm a fairly positive person i guess and one of the things that stops me getting down when i have problems is looking at those who are less fortunate. i do think that being able to write of debts is a comparitively lucky position to being thrown in prison! i wasn't suggesting we adopt the system here or saying OH's country is better than here - quite the opposite in fact.
however, i do think it's a little out of perspective to consider having to get an older secondhand car a genuine cause for pity when there are people in the world who can't put food on their plates!
i drive a cheap secondhand car and i'm on quite a decent salary. i don't consider it shameful. in fact, i feel lucky to be able to run and keep a car.
i consider my input supportive. just feeling sorry for people and encouraging self-pity is not supportive. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

I was shocked to find that he was an illegal immigrant who came into this country underneath a lorry from the wonderful IRAN:rolleyes:
where did i say it was a 'glorious country'? it's a bit sad trawling through all of someone's previous posts to find some ammunition against them dont' you think?
i said you should feel lucky to be able to write off debts rather than be punished for not being able to honour them (as happens in other countries). the implication in this is that the country that allows you to go bankrupt is a nicer place to live than the one that puts you in prison.
and yes my husband does count his lucky blessings daily. and so should you. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Look, I'm not going to get into a slangin match but I think the majority of people on this forum would not class "count your lucky stars, and BR is a priviledge" as being constructive.
The point you make about jail has no relevance as that law is from another country, which has SEVERE humanitary, domestic, human rights issues which would NEVER be adopted, thankfully, in our GREAT britain.
To reiterate what Tim said, BR is certainly no priviledge, it marks you for the rest of your life and is extremely prohibitive, sometimes emabarrassing and always stressful.
It is however a way of escaping an unbearable situation and giving yourself a fresh start to a positive new life, just like clinging to the bottom of a lorry to get a fresh start.........0 -

going bankrupt is hardly a life-threatening activity is it?Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

No you didn't Ninky, you said they should "count their lucky stars" which a whole lot more condecending and judgemental thay saying someone is lucky. You also said you post was to keep perspective, and this again is judgemental when you don't know what the backgroud to any situation has been. Many of us come to bankruptcy as a very last resort, and lose almost everything in the process. After all the heartache that has gone before, being allowed, by the generosity of others, to keep a vehicle valued at roughly £3K or so is worthy of congratulations.
Lastly, if you really do feel we are not punished for going BR, you really don't appreciate what many of us go through.BSC 2710 -

I really do suggest you READ some of the posts people have made here living with bankruptcy...its neither a right or an easy way out I can assure you....i'd be very very happy to forward you documentation listing my 3 hospital visits after attempting to end everything....who knows ninky if you stick around you might even learn something....please do shout out if you need a hand with some of the bigger words :D
let me guess though......a HPC regular poster?? :rolleyes:We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
And angie.....I do apologise for the way this post is going..We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

I was`nt going to add anything to this thread but feel I must.
I find that comment deeply offensive...a very close friend of mine committed suicide by hanging herself...she was only 50, all because of money problem....maybe ` ninky` you would have consideration for others before you post such a throw-away comment as that.
I wish you well however & agreed we are all welcome to our opinions...lets hope that misfortune never strikes you & yours.
