The account still shows, but the "Apply" button has disappeared. It's also disappeared off the "Apply for a new account" section in internet banking, suggesting it's been suspended or withdrawn.43580 -

Good to hear that they are not completely withdrawing it. Other people can be relieved now, and wait until the 'apply' button for that account goes up on the website again.
I think they could just trial the product without taking the 'apply' button down though. Now customers are now turned away becauseof no 'apply' button a few weeks ago (i.e. losing new customers).
Any idea when they will put the 'apply' button for that account back up?0 -

As it comes with a Visa Debit card whereas most of the other basic account come with Electron cards, or other conditions such as, only allowed to use that banks ATM's or unable to use Branch counter facilities without a charge etc.

"Almost all" banks offer debit cards with their basic bank accounts now. Only one bank offers VISA Electron cards now (HBOS). A&L, Abbey, Nationwide, and HSBC offer cash cards for their basic bank accounts. Most banks allow basic bank accounts customers counter facilities in branch, except HBOS.jsmith9156 wrote: »Tested my card in a Tesco Pay@Pump machine tonight and it worked! :j

Good to hear that it works as a Pay@Pump machine. I thought full authorisation cards aren't allowed, and would be a decline...?With so many banks offering basic accounts with debit cards now, why is this one so good ? (As people seem disappointed it's now temporarily off sale)
It has better interest rates. Other high street basic bank accounts either offer 0% or 0.10% interest.0 -
