Hi,
This is my first post here :-)
Just thought id mention the account I have just opened with the Coventry Building Society incase anyone here is looking for a basic account with a debit card.
I opened the account on line about ten days ago, the next day a form arrived for me to sign which I sent back with a postal order for £1.00 made payable to me and this morning my account details arrvied as well as a Visa debit card under seperate cover. Pretty painless really :-)
The name of the account is "CallSave MoneyManager (2)".
Hope this helps anyone looking for a basic account to open with no fuss as my credit raiting is, well, not good.
Regards
L

It does provide a debit card.Using your account
- A debit card is available on request.
- Debit card - you can use your debit card to pay in cheques or notes at any ATM (Automated Teller Machine) based at any of our branches.
- Use your debit card in the UK to withdraw cash from any ATM displaying the LINK symbol, or any ATM that displays the VISA sign worldwide (you will need to contact us to use your card abroad).
- Use your debit card to make purchases wherever you see the VISA sign in the UK and worldwide. The retailer or other supplier may allow you to obtain cash using your card.

It does indeed look like a good account, Being a cov bs account holder have just opened one and got my account number online there and then:), this is indeed good news for those with credit issues and others alike,For everthing else there's mastercard.

It's indeed a good account to have, and it's similar to the Coventry current account (Coventry First). Hopefully, it's not a credit scored product. This account is not listed as a current account or a savings account. It's a 'Money Manager' whatever that is.
Don't like the idea of having a maximum balance of £250,000 though. Most banks allow an unlimited amount of money in the account.
If anyone has a picture of the card, please post one. I think the design of the card will be different from the current account one.0 -
Well I just applied for it. Good to have a spare account as I am closing my Halifax account0

If you are a current customer, I assume you have a current account (Coventry First) with them. I think it's a bit better than the CallSaver one though.
The CallSaver Manager (2) savings account is better than Natwest First Reserve one, as it provides a lot more facilities like a current account, and a better interest rate.0 -

Ive just rang them, they confirmed the account was fully opened.
No it isnt credit scored, visa debit card . Money manager is the Cov bs's term for a day to day account. At first they didnt allow direct debits, just standing orders and wages , But its basically a cut down version of a current account and it DOES accept faster payments:)For everthing else there's mastercard.
