After about 2 hours of pulling the information together again

Thought you were going to say 2 hours of pulling your hair out... Nah, you do a good job there.

What does everyone think.. as above my plans for next year are to do those two races which are just over 16 miles on 14th March and 13.1 miles on 25th April. When I was still considering the VLM I'd downloaded a training plan for 6 months leading up to a marathon. Do you think it would do me good to still follow something along those lines leading up to the races even though I'm not planning on doing the marathon distance? Are there any reasons why it wouldn't be a good idea?

I'm no expert, but generally speaking training for the event you're actually doing is the best way of getting results in that event. So I guess it depends on what you're trying to get out of it...if you're after fitness, weight loss etc, then following a marathon plan would be a good exercise generally (although it's a lot of hard work...), but wouldn't necessarily be the *best* preparation for the event - if you're after improved times, though, you'll be better off following a plan more suited to the event(s) in question - although this may ultimately mean you can't run as far, don't lose as much weight etc.

    Hi all,

I am still around, just a little fatter these days.

We are moving to Cyprus just after christmas for hopefully 3 years, so ive been taking it easy & really should drag myself out for a run. I think its because ive passed the fitness test that i dont need to prove anything, and with not getting a VLM place it just makes things worse.

Im looking out the window thinking about painting the fence, but i doubt that will happen and ill fall asleep on the sofa again..

The joys of a week off..

You lazy thing Alias, I have a week off too and today I have cleaned every room in the house, done the laundry, changed all the bedding, and planted some herbs. Will be off for a run soon too!

Get out there now and either paint the fence or go for a run :D - we'd better see you taking the opportunity whilst in Cyprus to get fit again! Where will you be stationed, my dh was at Dhekelia barracks and my brother in Nicosia and my s-i-l near Limossol.

Thanks Idio, that has helped to clarify my thinking a bit. Well I've not done either distance before so whatever I do will be a PB, but I would like a decent time. Am really interested in fitness and building up distance more than anything though. I suppose my main concern is wearing myself out too much with the long training runs so I guess they might need a bit of tweaking to take into account the race dates/ distances.
