  • Hello all.

Not posted for a while thought I would quietly slip into the forum unnoticed and post my Clapham Common 10k race time only to find people have been wishing me luck. I've been foiled. :D

Unfortunately training has not been great. W/c 05/10 only managed one trip to the gym and a run. The following week I only managed a 3.5 mile run during which I tweaked my knee by running on a slope.

This week managed two trips to the gym on Tues and Thurs. On Tues I could only manage five minutes running due to knee. Was able to do a 35 min tempo run at with 15 mins at 13.2kph, but almost fainted I was so hot. Not the greatest preparation.

Anyway race today was ok. Three laps of Clapham Common. I started from the back and there was a real bottleneck so that I could only slowly walk the first 100m. Then spent ages trying to overtake people as the course was quite narrow. Overall the race was fine I felt like i was going for jog, but I didn't want to overdue it as it was my first 10k. Sprinted for what I thought was the finish only to find out I had another 400m to go . Time was 48:17. At first I was a bit disappointed as I think I could have gone faster, but now I realise 2 months ago my 5k PB was 24:09 and I had just done 2 5ks back to back a second faster.

Bring on the next race :rotfl:

Well done mrsplinter, I glad you're pleased with your run despite the difficulties you've had. Were there a lot of participants and what's the next race?

Thanks. There was about 570 runners I think. Not sure about the next race. I'd like to do another 10k before Xmas, just need to find one.

Well, UK, 16 C will be great, rain - no problem, its not like we don't get enough practice at running in the rain is it? but windy, no. Lets hope it calms down a bit before race day.

Went out today with OH for a run along the canal from Chorley up towards Blackburn. It was a lovely day and on the way out it was great with the wind behind us mostly. We decided for a bit of variety (and because there were some very slippy muddy bits) to come off the towpath and run back on the road. It was good but the wind was so strong! I felt like I was running to stand still on some bits. Anyway, I did 10.63 miles in 1:43:36 which I am very pleased with, considering the windy conditions.

We have both entered the Lancaster Half Marathon on 8th November. Would you add it to the list please Rich? It is flat and quite sheltered so I'm aiming to go under 2 hours, but I don't really know by how much. We'll see.

I'm sure there will be one near you. I've got a few races planned so hopefully I can get back to some good running, it's amazing how much fitness has gone in 3 weeks off sick!
