  • Getting back into it - reporting 6 miles in 56:51 (9:28/mile). Not too shabby since I managed 6.2 miles in total last week! Roundabout where I was before the half in terms of pace, though I could feel my core muscles a bit more from about four miles today. Need to restart the abs work too!

Simply - thats a fantastic time and 4 minutes off what me and Rich were predicting for you yesterday!!! Bet you cant wait for the next one :D

Thanks Becky - I should have realised that you and Rich would have been predicting times, I'm glad I didn't think of it though

On reflection I can't believe that I enjoyed the race so much; I think that later on today I'll write a more detailed race report. It'll be something to look back on when I'm deep into my next training schedule and getting up at silly o'clock to run on wet, dark mornings. And you're right - I can't wait for the next one :D

Nice running krider - as you say 'not too shabby' at all ;)

    Week 6/30 (Blackpool)
    Mon19/10 10K 43:47 (7:04/mile) (Pulse 98)

Tonight's run was very encouraging - a first 5K in 22:08 followed by 21:39 on the tougher last 5K suggesting that there is very little in the way of muscle fatigue from yesterday.:D

So now looking forward, the training objectives have become a little clearer. The current 1/2 marathon fitness is in the region of 1:21-1:22 but I need to get that projected time down to around 1:18-1:19 before attempting another half.

To do that means ducking under the hour for either the Brampton-Carlisle 10 on 21st November or the Thirsk 10 on November 29th !

Once that is achieved there will then be 2 months left to get that half time down to 1:15 to land a VLM Championship place. So by yesterday going pretty well I reckon that I can upgrade the chances of that VLM place from 'Pie In The Sky' to 'Not Totally Impossible':p

So how is all the stiffness and aching today for our marathon warriors?

Thanks! My HR is slightly up on where it would have been three weeks ago I've just discovered looking at the stats, but can't complain!

Looking forward to reading the report.

I've not braved running in the dark yet - and generally I like to escape at lunchtime for a bit - but I might have to soon. Also will have to work out what to wear; more than t-shirt and shorts soon whatever time of day I think. That said I did pass a (very cheery, waved at me!) chap today running in full leggings, jacket, hat, and gloves!! It wasn't that cold today - even for someone going soft living in the south :p

Shhhh Krider - Poorbabe will be on here insisting we all wear gloves now ;)

(I cant run in more than 2 layers even in winter because I am too sweaty )

That all sounds very positive Rich - a nice little challenge for you there ;)

Re. stiffness and aching - I'd like to report that I don't feel as bad as I thought I would. I had my usual dehydration headache yesterday and my thighs/front of ankles ached during the night but nothing too dramatic today.

My thighs (quads?) are aching, especially when coming down the stairs but not too much worse than after a LSR. I took myself out for a nice brisk 2 mile walk this afternoon that turned into a gentle run in the middle - 3/4 mile walk, 1/2 mile very slow run, then 3/4 mile walk again. I think I'd been sitting about too much and felt better for stretching my legs out a bit.

Should I expect to feel worse tomorrow? I'm back to work so will be sitting around in meetings most of the day; I just hope I don't seize up too much!!

Yep, you can expect to stiffen up a bit more yet, but it doesnt sound too bad if you actually managed to break into a jog today.:D

If I were you, I'd be looking for a nice flat 10K in about 4 weeks time...you'll be surprised how good you'll feel around that time!:D

  • Hmm, I thought as much; tomorrow should be interesting then :D

Will a nice flat half do instead of a 10k? I think I got carried away and entered a local one in a moment of taper madness - it's in Gosport on 15th November. :o
