More importantly - what has happened to Becky's ankle - are you ok Becky??
Amazing isnt it - there's loads of us racing today and yet the one who ends up injured is a spectator....attention seeking if you ask me!;)
It was a case of something sunk its viscious fangs into her ankle last night and it started swelling mid morning....by midday it was visibly swelling in front of your eyes. So off to the NHS walk in centre for anti-biotics and anti-inflammatories.
Despite the best efforts we have just had to take her to the vets to be humanely put down.................................:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hope you recover soon Becky, I have ankle biters but that's just ridiculous!!!
My sister (k_bagpuss)'s other half did the Amsterdam marathon today in 3 hrs 57 :T
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Well......after taking the advice of my Runners club members i didnt do any running until the Cardiff Half Marathon (this morning). I have to say my ankle felt fine for the first 10 mile but the last 3.1 where a bit painful.
2hr 21m 23s was my chip time so i'm relatively pleased with having only ran 3 times in the last 6 weeks and never more than 8 miles in my life.
i'm hoping to do something else by christmas
ps - i was freezing straight after the finish line - should have taken some warm clothing....doh!!0 -
wow some fantastic running today- Simply I am so impressed what a great time so glad you enjoyed it. Ukevas, well done on pb.
Mine didn't go quite to plan- but I finished and ran (hobbled) the whole way. 5hrs 20mins and 2secs! Run started well and kept times up to 17th mile between 10.28/mile and 10.42/mile I was really enjoying it, despite the stiles to climb and fields of chickens to run through! then I stupidly fell down a hole and banged my knee- the pain was intense, but I was determined to carry on so cried lots and hobbled (wouldn't let myself walk) for the remainder- my 4year old joined me for last 200yards, so we ran through the finish hand it hand :-) she's been telling everyone she won the race with mummy!!!!
Would not maybe suggest it as a race for first time marathon runners- very cross country and not many specators to cheer you on-which is what I had hoped would pulll me through (due to the fact that mainly through fields etc I guess) but very scenic and organisers friendly (even if they had run out of water at first station) Only 1 man in fancy dress as a clown though one man ran and juggled the whole route-incredible. Pleased I did it, but not in a hurry to do another :-)(Family of 5: 2 adults & 3 children aged 7yrs, 4yrs, and 18months)0 -

Congratulations, tq....that sounds like a tough event.
How far was it in the end? Wasnt it a bit of an odd distance from memory...27 miles or something?
Blakey - That is quite some increase on your longest training run..not ideal training but it looks like you toughed it out!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
