    Wooweeeee!!! Congratulations....:j:j:beer:

    And Becky says Fan-fu**ing-tastic!:D:D

That really does rank as a great achievement - a lot of people never manage to run a continuous marathon, let alone their FIRST one....you must feel great!

No doubts you've got lots more to tell us....so we're all ears........

  • Thanks guys and girls - I feel bl@@dy good!!!!!!!!!

It was an extremely well organised event; well marshalled and plenty of water stations (two with lucozade). I started right at the back and stayed there for the first 3 miles then slowly but surely moved up through the back runners.

I got lapped by the winning man at 01:47:22 (ish) - I think that's what the leader car said - and after that runners just kept thundering past until I entered the second loop.

I felt very comfortable until about mile 19 when I started to puff a bit - mile 23 was spent chanting ' I wanted to do this and I bl@@dy well will'. :D After that I knew I was on the home stretch and just relaxed and enjoyed it - I even managed a bit of a sprint round the athletics track at the end.

I had a fantastic time and am soooooooo pleased that all that training paid off.

    I think I'm in shock :rotfl::rotfl:

I hope you're not thinking of putting your feet up.....there's time to get a 10K done before dinner.;)

But that sounds like an ideally executed plan...running your own race and not letting what others are doing put you off.

Most people at least think, if not actually say, 'Never Again' after their first marathon......am I right in assuming that you're not one of those people?:D

  • Thanks evab - I truly enjoyed every minute of it and I don't feel as shattered as I did after the halfs (?). Don't tell anyone though as they'll think I was slacking :D

Thanks guys, feeling much better now. I felt pretty low when I returned this morning to be honest.
It doesn't help when you go to these events alone and there's no-one there to cheer you on or congratulate you when you finish :(

Anyway, I have now joined the local running club, Eccleshill Road runners Club, going for my first run with them tomorrow.

I can't really run after work on my own now with it being dark, I've been on their website today and they organise quite a lot of training runs and events etc, it'll be nice to see some of the social side of running for once.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

  • Congratulations to those who ran today :j

Simply - the things that didn't go quite right (from your point of view) in the halfs were just to give you this fantastic marathon result :T

Linda - that's a good time for someone who has not run since the GNR. I understand what you mean about it feeling harder when you are on your own. It was far nicer after the half when my OH was there (though he missed me on the finishing straight!!)

Saz - good running - plans for another event now?

Rich - a good time on the 10m. I quite fancy trying a 10 miler - might have to have a look around...

Becky/ankle?! What have I missed? Hope it's sorted soon...
