Simply- how are you feeling today? I can't believe you did some running yesterday! Reading runners world today it said not to for at least a week?- any advice anyone?

Becky cant post due to lack of internet connection but the foot is much better, planning to run again around Thurs/Fri ish!
In terms of running after a marathon, its basically a case of running whenever you feel like it - there's no need to wait a week if you're feeling up to it in 2/3 days, the sooner you get the waste products moving the better.
It takes around 4 weeks to get full muscle repair achieved, but a huge percentage of the repair is done in the first week, probably 80-90%, so racing the weekend after a marathon is usually no problem but times are affected by about 10-15 secs/mile compared to what you would normally expect.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
Blackpool Marathon 11/4/2010 (Target=2:59:59) (6:52/mile)

You cant get away with rounding 1:26:33 to 1:26 and 1:06:58 to 1:06!!:p
Once you get towards the pointy end of the race every second counts!;)
.... well that maybe so... but the the 1h 06m is really a 1.05m anyway... so its all swings and slides

I wouldn't say it was a run exactly tq; it was a very slow 1/2 mile in the middle of a brisk walk and I think it has helped. I was sitting in meetings most of today but my legs are aching less than they were yesterday - not too much more than after my LSR's.
I'll probably leave it tomorrow and go for a slow 2 miles on Thursday; if it's not comfortable then I'll stop and walk.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Hi,
Becky the ankle looks sore, hope you're recovering well.
I went to running club last night, it was a nice gentle 3 mile recovery run because a few of them had run the Bridlington half on Sunday.
Really enjoyed it, going again tomorrow night, Wednesday nights is a longer run
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Thanks for the advice rich.
I'm only jealous Simply, thinks its great that you are feeling so good, your hard work and training really paid off - I'm itching to get out and run but knee still painful even walking (though not half as bad as yesterday) Hoping I maybe able to get out by weekend :-)
Glad your foot getting better Becky.(Family of 5: 2 adults & 3 children aged 7yrs, 4yrs, and 18months)0 -
Hi Sorry guys - yeah the foot is better but still sore when I walk so no running today - may go out tomorrow but wont rush out if its still aching as the swelling has only just gone - I dont want it back
Tq - I went running 2 days after my marathon to help ease out stiffness (after an transatlantic flight too) but it was only a mile or two and thats really all I needed so I say go when you feel like it!
Was talking to Rich last night Simply - and we think you've got something special because your pace does not degredate over distance (notice how everyone elses WAVAs for marathon are much lower than their halfs for instance) - very impressive and suggests you can go a lot faster with the right training...
So I was wondering when your next marathon is exactly - I think you know what ingredients you need to put into a plan but I'd like to take a look over it and suggest some speedwork sessions for you to try if you dont mind
Glad you enjoyed runclub Linda - how far is it tonight?0 -

Its a good job this chap isnt posting on here because on Sunday he'd have got a WAVA of 100.42% on his marathon debut at 21 year old! Not too shabby!
He didnt actually break the world record but because the basis year for the WAVA calculations is prior to when the WR was broken that would have been his score.:rolleyes:Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

No pressure then  :rotfl:
I'm glad you asked about the training plan Becky because I was going to ask you if you would be kind enough to look at another one for me.
My next marathon is on Sunday 2 May 2010 - I had considered just using the same plan again, starting in early December, but running most of the training runs on my hilly route to make it more challenging (and strengthen my legs!!).
I'm not saying that I found marathon on Sunday 'easy' but I ran it conservatively (because I was more focussed on getting round without walking than on times) and found it was more comfortable than I had expected. I still can't believe how much I enjoyed it.Do you still have a copy of the plan that you prepared for me previously or should we start from scratch?
Rich - will you please stop being naughty? Poor Uk will be driven mad with all the challenges you keep presenting him with - 100.42% WAVA indeed!!!!2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
I'll dig out your old one and have a look - am sans internet at home for the next few days but I expect you'll want a few days off anyway0
