I would rather be running than doing what I am doing now - as I'd rather had achy legs than my brain hurting - ouch. At least after Monday I won't need to start preparing for next lot of exams until in September so plenty time to get training for half in October before that :j"Everything will be alright in the end. Hi all (again),
Well it looks like i should be able to compete in the GNR this year again, but there is a slight problem. I live over 2000 miles from the UK now, and have a new pain that can see me run no more than 4-5miles at a push. Mainly / Probably due to lack of running.
Getting back isnt the hard bit, that will cost about £150 in all inc accomodation, the problem is putting myself back to running 30+ miles a week again within 2 months.
Though i did enjoy it last time..0 -
Morning all, am another one who is sneaking back on here ( I managed to kill my pc), been doing a bit of running and training though not as much as usual.
Am off to run the Mont Blanc marathon next weekend....anyone else out the ever run it? am starting to get a little nervousProud to be dealing with my debt:eek:
TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D0 -
I am back running again after exams and after-exam-head ache. :j I have now 4 to 5 weeks before I start my half marathon programme so I am pondering how I could make best use of this time. I might venture to the other website to ask about speed work from those on the know.
Good luck to the Mont Blanc marathon Catspaw"Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Hi
Wonder if you can help?
Very lasped runner who has just signed up for a 10k race in September. Just wanted some advise on how best to approach training, would anyone be so kind as to help with a plan? Would like to am for sub 1hour. At the moment I would suggest that I could manage 5k in about 40 mins but I struggle to work out distances ( any advice)??
Right off for my normal Sunday morning swim and pilates..... then bike ride this evening and then planning for this, want to start tomorrow.0 -

Work yourself a route out, try to make it 5k or 3 miles, use www.mapmyrun.com to measure the route, and then go out and try to run it without stopping. If you do stop though, dont worry just carry on the route until you have finished and record your time. This is your 'new' personal best.
They key here is to get 5k in the bag and this is the minium you will run if you go out. (example - If you plan to run 10 miles, but dont feel like it, you will complete the minimum 5k etc). The reason behind this is that it for the first mile you will be thinking of reasons to stop, at 1.5 mile you will think half-way through and your on your way back, and at 2.5miles you will feel good and maybe put in an extra lap.
I would try to run the 5k route without stopping for a few weeks, maybe running 3x a week, maybe tuesday, thursday & sunday. Once 5k is easy, and down to about 30mins you could start to step up the distance to 4miles etc.
Dont worry, it will soon come your way. We all start somewhere.

**creeps in**
Did 5 miles this morning - the furthest I have done since London LAST year
Plodded round in 55 mins, didn't stop, and so am happy with that.
Now just have to stop this stupid thing that I do of running once.....then putting my trainers back for a few weeks before deciding to go again :rotfl:

right - starting to worry now
I've signed up for this 10k next week and I have yet to do that distance:eek:  - I did about 5 miles a few weeks ago and could have done more, time allowing, so not TOO worried, but I am half hoping that they forget to send me the details........
Hoping to do a PR tomorrow, see how much off my pace I am... then maybe one more run on Tuesday....... anyone got any supporting words/advice?Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

Hi All, I just realised I hadn't posted since the Edinburgh Half Marathon, and I've now done the Redcar Half and managed to knock off another 6 minutes so I was very very very pleased with that, especially as I didn't do a long run in the three weeks between the 2 runs!
It was my 40th birthday last weekend, so other than 2 club sessions I didn't do any running, just had lots of champagne instead! And not running this weekend as my fiance is doing the Liverpool Olympic distance triathlon on Sunday morning so we're setting off down there tomorrowGood wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.0 -
Happy birthday k_bagpuss! I have consumed much champagne on your behalf too, you will be pleased to know :rotfl:
I have (hopefully) a new running partner from the village - she is very much a beginner, but is wanting to complete a marathon in the not too distant future, so although we are starting from scratch, we have to somehow get the miles in for her. So I did a total of 5 miles at varying paces on Wednesday with her, and I did a 3 mile gentle jog with Pania who came to visit last night.
Hopefully, I am heading out again tomorrow morning with new run-chum, so even though it is slow and certainly not all "running", it is getting me back into the habit of getting my trainers on and getting "out there".
Have a good weekend everyone!
PS, Lurkio, if you can do 5 miles, you can do 6.2. Just don't set off too fast - it is really demoralising to do 4 or 5 quick miles and then undo all your hard work in the last mile or so because you have overcooked it earlier.
Good luck with it!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0
