*peeks around the door*
Is it safe here? - seems to be a lot of very serious runnerly types but as I have entered the ballot for the VLM I suppose I need to become a serious runnerly type....26.2.19/14.1.19: T MC 3629.26/3629.26 : VM 0% 1050/13876.59 : W 0% 100/1485 = 4409.26/18990.85 =25.17%28.1.19/28.1.19 Hubs 0% £400/£2,977 =13.44%SPC 2019 #073

:hello:
It's quite safe in here
Not all serious runners in here, I can barely call myself a runner at all these days (think you have to run for that)
What level are you running at now? Will this be your first marathon (if you get in)?0 -
I'm not serious runner either, and would never contemplate a marathon...just doing bits and pieces and trying to keep fit.DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!Proud to have dealt with my debts!0

Did a 10k in 2008, found I was pregnant, was then unable to run because of joint pain, started to get back in shape, PND hit and lost all motivation, started running again in 2010, fell pregnant, had miscarriage and now picking up AGAIN! Can do 5km with a bit of effort at about 6 to 6.30 mins per km so plod plod plod.... Will be first marathon, 10k is my furthest to date...26.2.19/14.1.19: T MC 3629.26/3629.26 : VM 0% 1050/13876.59 : W 0% 100/1485 = 4409.26/18990.85 =25.17%28.1.19/28.1.19 Hubs 0% £400/£2,977 =13.44%SPC 2019 #073

Yes - have a training plan including running, cycling, swimming and weights. I suppose the 'pigging out' is the problem. Lausanne will be my fifth marathon - the best was Loch Ness. Wonderful run.
On my bike now.

Sounds like you've had an eventful couple of years...marathon training seems like a great idea for you - it's structured, routined and requires focus - great for settling your life down after "interesting times"
Have you given any thought to a formalised training plan, or are you just going to get out there for now and see how you get on?0 -
Was just going to 'get out there' for a month or two and get the feel back for it then look at formalising a plan and perhaps joining a running group for advice on things, like fartlek for example, which I have read up on but am unsure about in practice26.2.19/14.1.19: T MC 3629.26/3629.26 : VM 0% 1050/13876.59 : W 0% 100/1485 = 4409.26/18990.85 =25.17%28.1.19/28.1.19 Hubs 0% £400/£2,977 =13.44%SPC 2019 #073

Lukio,
Yeah loads of time....i am going to guess 55mins!
Marru, Good luck then. You will always have a few to run round but it can spur you on.....catch em one at a time.
Tril,
Never say never to the lure of the marathon!
Lucifa,
This is a very friendly site, and you will get good advice. WOW you have set yourself a big target. But its very do-able.
I would probably start off planning 4 days a week that you run....every week. Then set one aside that is your long run. Start of with a few easy runs, (3-4 miles? or whatever is easy for you) and then a bit longer on the longer one (5-6 miles)
get your body used to running 4-5 days a week and gradually increase the mileage. And don't be afraid to have a few days off if you need at this stage. I would then start to look for a couple of 10k races and a half marathon or two, to focus your training a bit. (and its good fun.!) you have loads of time so don't be daunted by the mileages you need to do.
Hi Idio.... whats happened to your running?Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

Just haven't found much time for it since Christmas, for one reason or another - think I've done as many races this year as I have training runs. Hoping to get back into the swing of things today, but my runners are still wet from my race last weekend, so that's the latest t[STRIKE]hing slowing me down[/STRIKE] excuse0
