    Vic,
Take it easy at the beginning of the run to allow your muscles to warm up.( I am bad for going off too quick myself)
I dont stretch prior to running as their is a thought that stretching cold muscles does not help and may be detrmental. I ALWAYS stretch at the end of a run, a full 30 seconds per stretch..........just google to get a good set and stick to it religiously, then as the mileage increases you should stay in good shape!

well done on the increases, what you are descibing is improvement!! well done........keep going.......

Personally, I'd focus on distance. If you get a 6 miler in in the next couple of days, you'll feel confident that you'll make it round the 10k, which makes a difference - and you'll get some kinda idea on likely times. I don't think it's uncommon to knock around 10% off your training best in a race - so if you can get somewhere close to 66 mins for a 6 miler, you shouldn't be far off a 1 hour 10k on race day. I'd imagine there's little improvement you can make physically at this stage, so I'd concentrate on getting yourself mentally prepared - and resting up so you're on peak form for the big day :)

Thanks for the advice. I managed a 5.8mile jog and it was fine, no problems, it took me 55 mins. Then a couple of days after that I jogged 6.14 miles in 56 mins. I had a stonking headache afterwards, which I put down to not drinking enough.
Hopefully I'll manage that on Sat. My initial plan was to be able to run the 10km sub 50mins but through injury my training has been non existent so maybe next time.
All in all this will be my 4th week training with 2 runs a week so I don't think it's too slow.

    Thanks for the advice
