    Hi Callisto - two things.

My thoughts on run/walk/run are here

You are injured - you are aggravating the injury (or have done more than once). You need to rest, until you arent injured and then restart slowly (preferably with walking).

Forget the race, its not worth your long term health to risk it.

If you want some free 5ks around the country every Saturday to give you something to aim for then pop along to parkrun

Please keep going - you've got off to a bad start by trying to do too much on untrained muscles but a good running life could well lie ahead of you if you go about it the right way from now :D

I agree. Please consider dropping out, Callisto. I know it's disappointing, but there will be other chances. There are 5K events around the country every weekend.

Walk-run can increase the risk of injuries by putting a lot of strain on untrained muscles. What is worse, it does it repeatedly, while allowing the muscles to cool before going again. i know that doesn't really help you right now!

I would give it a week off, then start with brisk walking, leading into gentle jogging, if you feel better. Check back in and we can advise you on what kind of sessions you should do to reach your goals.

Good luck and please consider very carefully whether you want to risk aggravating your injury.

Glasgow to Edinbugh...Well Falkirk for me

It all started with a spot of carb loading when i got home from work at midnight on thursday with the consumption of a small (well small by my standards being it would feed two) pizza. Not quite one of the family size 4 person ones i usually eat.

Pizza eaten, sky plussed stuff caught up upon (still got Eddie to watch though which is for after work tonight) then bed around 2. Awake about 10ish, cat booted out for some sun before she gets shut in for a few days. Weetabix eaten, bag packed, cat fed, watered and litter tray sorted then let her back in. Off to Carlisle to pop in at Grans and park the car before getting the train to Edinburgh.

Decent trip up though the snowy hills and then off to my hotel to check in. Watch a bit of telly then of to Sainsbury's for some food and back via subways as i was hungry. Dinner was the afore metioned subway (a 6 inch subway melt to be precise), a sausage and tomato pasta tub, one slice chocolate cake and 2 smarties cookies. Not a lot really by my standards. Oh i had a Ginsters chicken and mushroom slice on the train.

Earlyish night after some telly watching (remind me NOT to watch that embarrasign bodies after eating next time) fell asleep a little after 11 watching Team Ameroica world police.

Awake at 5:30 to pack backpack for the race etc. Short walk to Haymarket station for the 6:30 to Glasgow ad brekkie of 2 pork pies. Got to Glasgow on time, quick toilet visit then a pain au choc from the coffee ba whilst waiting for another competitor to fill up his water. Then once he returned we headed off, on foot, to the race start being i knew the way.

Got to the start, registered pinned on my number (69 :)) fetchie waffling time, a few pics then we were off. Didn't want to be going to fast and bizarely i was going along at 9:45 pace more or less spot on for the first 10 miles or so. Only deviations were when i was walkign to drink water etc.

Were a few muddy bits which were slippy so walked through them and made it to checkpoint one in 2:23 after 13.4 miles. Not to bad and a bit ahead of the 11 min mile pace i was roughly aiming for. Hit a muddy patch around 18 miles in and slipped whilst running through it twisting my knee. Handily the only people in earshot where a few geese so the distinctly none church worthy language that appeared from my mouth was handily missed.

Walked for about 2 miles eating 3 smarties cookies then run walked a bit, by which point Pestomum had caught me up so we carried on togeather. I knew the knee wasn't perfect as stopping for traffic to cross the road at Bonnybridge it was somewhat stiff once i got going again.

Got to checkpoint 2 in 4:24ish after 23.4 miles and knowing the next checkpoint was 11 miles away i opted to stop rather than continue. Was a tricky decision as the knee doesn't hurt much at all today but who is to say the extra 30 miles or so wouldn't have made it worse. Espcially as it was meant to be muddier later on. Saw the last people past the checkpoint before catching the bus into Falkirk to get the train back.

Got back to the hotel, ate 2 chicken and mushroom slices and a bottle of FGS then had a shower. Had a nap but er woke up at 9pm with a stiff knee. Quick walk down to Princes st and back again to loosen it off and see how it was feeling before telly, a bar of milka and a second FGS.

Up at 8 and a bit of vegging around then packed stuff away and off for the trai home via the castle, the royal mile and Waterstones. Pleasingly there was minimal knee grumbling walking around. Got the train home via the Pasty shop and one bacon and cheese pasty and a pork and apple one for my lunch once i got home.

    Great report KMS!

Strangely enough I've had a few pork pies this week - carb loading, that's what I'm doing, yep!

KMS: nice one, better to be safe than sorry.....I will definately tell my running partner about the carbo loading:D.... you wouldn't be up for extreme ultra adventure racing would you? we seem to be one short for our team:D

Will be popping out tmw for a short-ish one to see how my ribs go. Turns out I have broken 3 and 1 in 2 places......but they are feeling so much better after 5 days enforced rest ( mentally I am climbing the walls though)

If they're good will be doing the 20 miles on Sunday
Proud to be dealing with my debt:eek:

TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D

    Lol

I'm not overly fast ;) And er what makes it extreme ultra racing? Ultras aren't a walk in the park as it is ;)

Knee has behaved the last 3 days where i have run home from work, even managed a 5 mile run before work the last two days. Def not 100% though as i can tell its not perect. Still saturdays race will soon show what state its in.

Oh, pork pies aren't really carb loading as such but cookies are ;)
