£6 or so in Argos BT well done on making it round - it isnt the key session this week so a bit of speedwork is all good - bet its faster than you think anyway :)

    Mon - 6.24 miles in 56:47 8:56 mins/mile
    Tues - 8.32 miles in 78:01 9:23 mins/mile
    Weds - 1 mile in 9:41
    Thurs - 8.32 miles in 76:51 9:14 mins/mile
    Fri - 8.32 miles in 72:37 8:44 mins/mile
    Sat - 6.2 miles of which 3.1 miles in 22:28 7:15mins/mile

Another good one for me - didnt have enough for a sprint finish but kept the 22 minute pacer in sight all the way - if the week had been lighter I would have been a bit faster but a 20 second pb is all good :D

Now the last few parkruns have been:
    24:16
    23:26
    22:48
    22:28

So thats nearly 2 minutes off in 4 runs :j
  • Really really sore knees today, so no running. The little bit below your knee caps hurt.

I remember in the past, that rest helped the pain go away, but that when when i was pushing for 10-12 miles, not 5 miles.

Alias - it could be because you have pushed up to 5 miles very quickly from not running for a while - if it doesnt hurt to walk then that should help :)

Hi all! I'm back running at last after being out of action with a torn hamstring since November. I still have the niggling discomfort in my bum but can't bear to wait any longer, so I ran a gentle 5k last weekend, and the same today, and it's no worse. Does anyone have experience of running with a dodgy hamstring? Is it OK to go out for a long run tomorrow after running today?

I've entered a race in June, which will involve running about 7.5 miles on a mountainous route, with lots of up and downhill. There are 16 weekends to go, so I need to work out a good training plan. Again, any tips welcome!

    Sorry about all the questions!

    Hi Seaxwyn,

As with most injuries, rehabilitation is usually a case of 'see how it goes' as you gently increase the workload.

Hamstrings take quite a lot of the stress when running, but because they are incredibly strong it would be unlikely that normal straight line running forces would strain even a 'dodgy' hamstring.

However, where things get a little more tricky is when lateral forces come into play, ie cornering and slippy surfaces - then you should really use a lot of caution until they are completely healed.

Apart from that it really is just give it a go but be careful. As a positive note, while running you are promoting bloodflow to the area and therefore speeding up the repair work!:)

OMG I am in shock - Bushy is the best parkrun in standards terms (because its the original) - today I was 5th lady out of 150 women

BT - your time was much better than you thought - 22:44 so well in line with your others especially if you were stiff - its normal to see a slow down in times as you progress into marathon training so anything within 30 seconds of pb is equivilant basically :)

Wow! Well done! Only one lady finished just ahead of me at Bromley, so if you head down there it may be a win for you! :)

Cool, I'm pleased with that. How does that explain your progress, though!?

I think its an old injury, i had pyshio on the knees a few years ago from an ice skating injury where i landed on both knees.

Might ask the doctor for a referral to put that little electrolosis machine on again whilst i carry on with the distance.

I had this pain the week before the great north run, maybe its time for some new trainers..
