See now normally I agree with JM on there but today he is being a contentious !!!! for the sake of it!

    Free = no costs
Sponsorship = costs not paid for by the person receiving said goods or service.

They are all ignoring this point!

I know - it could develop into a good ruck now. Good innit?:p

The fact that you were stiff last night should mean that you're in A1 condition ready for tomorrow...:D

I hope so! Am really looking forward to it - with a small proportion of "aargh help!" thrown in!

Well, this morning's run went better. Ran to work and then decided to tag my normal lunchtime run on the end for good measure. So got just over 14 miles done. OK, it's not the 16 I was meant to do last weekend, but I'm more or less back on track for my marathon plan now.

    So far this week:
    Monday - 5 miles
    Tuesday - 5 miles
    Wednesday - 9 miles
    Thursday - <1 mile (abandoned)
    Friday - 14 miles

So, as I'm away next Saturday and Sunday, I'm thinking perhaps I should do my long run next Friday. So this is my vague plan. Any comments appreciated!:

    Saturday - 5 miles (parkrun)
Sunday - not sure what to do here!
Monday - rest day (depending on Sun)
    Tuesday - 9 miles
    Wednesday - 9 miles
    Thursday - 5 miles
Friday - long run (is 18 miles OK?)
    Saturday - no run
    Sunday -no run

Has anyone else noticed an increase in runners out and about in the last couple of weeks - I've seen loads, especially more women, do you think it's a "made a New Year's resolution and have suddenly realised it's February and I should do something about it" thing? Or perhaps round here it's the fact that the local half marathon is now 11 weeks away... lots of people starting 12 week training plans last week?

Yes, not bad. Not as much as 3 weeks ago, but after last weeks injury wash out, it's going OK again.

Probably that and the fact that it's getting light earlier in the mornings. It's also light later, but not enough for evening running, yet! I expect we'll see a further increase after the clocks change. New runners on the streets, plus VLM runners reaching the height of their training.

God I can hardly move for VLMs at the moment - its drives me mad. There are unwritten rules on the embankment - run on the left, always move in to let faster runners past etc. This is partly due to the number of bikes on the path as well!

None of them seem to want to follow them! I end up having to barge past even when they are running towards me becuase they wont give way, which they then tutt about *rolls eyes*

BT - cant comment on your week will let the guru do so :)

Got any advice on my running plan, rich? One of those 9 milers is planned at marathon pace. The rest are slow.

I'll probably be running bromley again tomorrow, just because I've got a lot to do and it's pretty close, but still fast!

When the idea was previously floated there was a long list of people who came out of the woodwork and were lapping it up and loved the idea of being part of a 'running club'. But it quickly became apparent that it was no more than an illusion. The vast majority were 'dieters' who had pretty much no interest in running at all. Thats absolutely fine but I certainly dont want to be part of a slimming club, there are more appropriate places for that sort of thing.

Any talk of training and improvement were dismissed as 'elitist' !!!

This is unfair and untrue, particularly your last comment.

A small number of us who had some weight to lose were made to feel extremely uncomfortable posting on this thread, for various reasons, which I wont drag back up again.

And yet 12 months on, we are ALL still running. In fact are all doing half marathons this year with training well underway (I personally ran 13 miles last week, 14 this week, with longest run of 9 miles, and have 8 months to go yet). If it was just a passing fad, or only about weightloss, we would have stopped by now. You talk of consistency - we have all been out there all winter, come rain, snow or sheet ice, taking every opportunity to push for the improvements you say we dismissed. We have more than proved you wrong.

I wont comment further as I have no intention of being drawn into a row, but could not let your comments pass unchallenged and be accepted as the truth by those who were not around at the time to see for themselves.

Hmm an interesting interpretation considering that it was the people who were happily talking about running and helping people to get started and improve who were inexplicably on the receiving end of snide remarks (for reasons still unknown).

The threads are still there for all to read. I know full well who it was who was made to feel unwelcome!

And as for the rest of your comments, I cant start to think what you're referring to. You've proved who wrong? About what?
