A gentle run tonight, or so it felt, but that pulse looks a little high - best keep an eye on that in case the virus isnt completely gone.
Ev - Thats not a nice way to describe your OH. Good luck tomorrow anyway.
Mascott - Portsmouth? Didnt they used to have a football club?:p And isnt that the beauty of running - you can just make it fit around you and it doesnt argue.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Well, this morning's run went better. Ran to work and then decided to tag my normal lunchtime run on the end for good measure. So got just over 14 miles done. OK, it's not the 16 I was meant to do last weekend, but I'm more or less back on track for my marathon plan now.
So far this week:
Monday - 5 miles
Tuesday - 5 miles
Wednesday - 9 miles
Thursday - <1 mile (abandoned)
Friday - 14 miles
So, as I'm away next Saturday and Sunday, I'm thinking perhaps I should do my long run next Friday. So this is my vague plan. Any comments appreciated!:
Saturday - 5 miles (parkrun)
Sunday - not sure what to do here!
Monday - rest day (depending on Sun)
Tuesday - 9 miles
Wednesday - 9 miles
Thursday - 5 miles
Friday - long run (is 18 miles OK?)
Saturday - no run
Sunday -no run
Yep, that looks sensible - I would make sure that you have a bit extra time for that 18, which will be the main focus of the week anyway. By having plenty time you will be able to complete the 18 even if you can only run to 15 and then walk the rest - that last 3 miles will still help develop the glycogen sparing mechanics.
I take it is the earlier of the 2 9 milers (Tuesday) that you plan to do at marathon pace?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Tues - 8.32 miles in 78:01 9:23 mins/mile
Weds - 1 mile in 9:41
Thurs - 8.32 miles in 76:51 9:14 mins/mile

Glad to see you are back out Mascott
Hello EvWhat are your running plans this weekend?
Simply - soooo whats the plan of attack for Sundays 20 miler? Training with a number on or an all out race?
Snags - if you want to be a part of the thread and have a debate on the matter that is fine you know - we do welcome everyone - I think what happened was a long time ago and was bourne out of a sense of frustration from those of us who train regularly (as in a lot) being 'looked down upon' for wanting to be competitive with each other - if you're not interested in being competitive - thats fine, running has something for everyone. You can come and post your progress and race results and get advice/talk about stuff (have rants). But positively what I dont want on here is a chip on shoulder 'us vs them' attitude. We welcome all abilities who want to train hard and make progress, but we dont pander to excuses for lack of training (except maybe optimising your rest/training balance) and we dont fawn over people who have made no effort and 'run' a 7 hour marathon.
Now if you've got to a 5 hour marathon from a 7 hour first time then all credit to you and the work you've put in, but I'm not going to say what said person has done is better than someone who has trained for 20 years and run a 2:10 marathon. If thats elitist then I'm elitist - I prefer to think of it as 'realistically competitive'. I'm not likely to ever be an elite runner but the best feeling in the world to me is breaking a pb (and winning a race comes a close second)0 -
Nice running becky, back to good training.
I thought I would do do 2 slow runs 6 miles tomorrow then 8 on Sunday then back to varied training next week.
:rotfl:rich but he's more like a pain in the neck at times, bless him!0 -
Sounds good Ev - hope the ear ache clears off soon - it could be the cold rather than the hubby0

Thank you Becky, I wouldn't have posted here at all had it not been for the post made yesterday - I haven't before. There was certainly no intention to start a row, and I think the tone of my post reflects that.
But the post related to me (and a handful of others) so I answered it, as most people would want to in the same circumstances.
I have never accused anyone of being elitist, or criticised anyone for being competitive. I go out of my way to congratulate you and the others on the daily chat thread who have broken personal bests, or run new longest distances, and have never sneered at people for training hard - I'm inspired by them/you in fact. So I'm not actually sure where that impression came from. And you are right, it was an awfully long time ago, and forgotten as far as I was concerned, therefore was surprised to read a fairly harsh criticism after so long.
Perhaps I should have just let it go, but I am not the person that was being painted in that post, and it is hard to sit back and ignore unfairness.
Thank you for being inclusive and welcoming, it is appreciated. I do have to take slight issue with your point about 'excuses' for not training - I have reasons that I am not able to run more often - they are not excuses - but perhaps you were not specifically referring to me with that comment. I have missed one possible training session so far this year (moping over man troubles...I'll give you that one, it was definitely an excuse :rotfl:), but other than that I have been out in all weathers, and that is borne out by the fact my long runs are now approaching 10 miles rather than the 5k runs I was doing 3 months ago.
I do wish you all well and will continue to read the valuable advice and experience posted on here."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

Not a good week for me - but still a consistent pace. I started the week with Bloody Toe Tales and finished with what we will call Simply's Stomach Incident!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:I started out with good intentions of doing a 6 mile Hilly run but had to turn and run home pretty sharpish - not easy when your stomach hurts and you're trying to clench your butt cheeks together.:rotfl:
Becky - That's a good tally of miles you've got there.Sunday will be training with a number on ...... or would it be good to push it a bit to see what I am capable of?
red - good luck with your 16 miler tomorrow.
Rich - that pulse is definitely looking on the high side (for you) hope it soon returns to normal.
ev - take care of that ear.
mascott - enjoy the footie tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me to avoid the town centre.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910
