Snags - excuses was referring to people (no one in particular) who claim to want to run 5/6 dasy week but only ever get out 3 days - its too cold, too wet, too hot etc.

Reasons for only running 2-3 times a week are fine - its better to consistently train to a level that you can manage than binge back and forth.

You've made good progress this year and I've recognised that as well, both here and elsewhere. I am hardly shortcomning with my 'well dones'. I think the misundestanding comes when me and Rich are more congratulatory to people who run faster, its not because we dont respect the work you and others are putting in, but we recognise that to go from nothing to a 3:51 marathon (Ukevas for example) is an even bigger achievement. Thats not to say you havent achieved either but there has to be some measure of these things - which is what the WAVA table does for our purposes - otherwise our congratulations wouldnt be anything except empty plaudits.

Like I say if you want to post here more you are welcome, but if you dont thats fine too.

    You parkrunning this weekend?
  • I'm fine thanks ev - just got an upset tum and feel a bit queasy. I'm more annoyed at not completing the 6 miles than anything else. ;)

Yep, that looks sensible - I would make sure that you have a bit extra time for that 18, which will be the main focus of the week anyway. By having plenty time you will be able to complete the 18 even if you can only run to 15 and then walk the rest - that last 3 miles will still help develop the glycogen sparing mechanics.

I take it is the earlier of the 2 9 milers (Tuesday) that you plan to do at marathon pace?

Thanks rich. Yeah, I'll make sure I have time to finish the 18. And yes, I plan to make Tuesday's 9 miler the marathon pace one. A day after the rest day and not too close to my long run makes sense to me.
Still not sure what I'll do tomorrow. I suppose around 10 miles slow seems like a good one to fit in before my rest day.

Off to make coffee and get ready for parkrun. Feeling a bit heavy after yesterday's long run, but will have a crack anyway.

    Sat13/2 Bushy Park parkrun 5K 18:52 (6:05/mile)(Posn 25th/543) (3rd in Age Group)

This morning it was time to visit the original, and by far the biggest, parkrun at Bushy Park. The temp was around 1c but that didnt stop around 500 turning up to rattle around the 1 lap 5K course.

From my own point of view I think I was still dealing with the tail end of the virus from during the week, but still a solid enough run.

On the other hand, Becky just keeps going from strength to strength. Her previous PB of 22:48 has been consigned to the history books with yet another leap forward to 22:28 (7:15/mile).

Simply - Hope the 'internals' have sorted themselves out.

Beer Tins - You should get all the main benefits out of the week planning along those lines. Hope Bromley has gone smoothly.

Snaggles - The comment about the thread having a majority of 'dieters who didnt have any interest in running' was because it was full of dieters who didnt have any interest in running! No hidden meanings. The fact that we stopped posting due to the fact that there was nothing but talk about diets and the latest faddy way to semi-starve yourself proves that point. And if you read back you will see actual quotes from people saying that they had no interest in running.

Hence the idea of getting a running club up and running was dropped.

As Becky says, you are perfectly welcome to join in the banter and tell us about your training and racing aims and how things are going. But please drop the attitude. I'm sorry, but nobody is going to tip-toe on eggshells for fear of you or anyone else deciding to take offence from perfectly reasonable and sensible comments.

But it certainly looks like you're progressing well with the distances so you should have a good year coming up.....
