Good thoughts BT - I'm good with the technical stuff but less good with orgnisation if that makes sense
Well, I'm mainly good at the techie stuff, too! If we get a hosting package with plenty of MySQL Databases, we can use it for forums, blogs, photos etc. (open source solutions available for all). But we can also build database tools for the really geeky stuff like training plans and training/race diaries.Sorry to hear the ankle is still playing up - you might have to start aqua jogging soon
I know! Hopefully it'll improve soon. not sure whether to skip my parkrun this Saturday, as it's fairly intense and just concentrate on plenty of low intensity mileage.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
I should add that I will obviously contribute to the site running cost too, on top of the club membership and club registration fee.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0

Have just sent an email to Paul at Parkrun - I am so hopping mad about that Elders guy and what he is trying to do to parkrun - which lets face it has helped a lot of us get better (no more so than myself!) and given us an excuse to get up on Saturday mornings0

I have to agree. It is something to look forward to on Saturdays and helps grass roots sport in the UK. It gets loads more people out running. The argument that it somehow takes funds away from UK athletics doesn't wash with me. Loads of people who start running through parkrun will go on to enter official events as well. Other events are hardly struggling to fill their places.
He can spit the dummy all he likes, I think his call will be ignored by the vast majority of parkrunners.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

Its not even funded by UKA so its not taking any funding from anyone - they pay for the licences out of the sponsorship money!:mad:
I enter loads of official events and pay my levy as an unattached runner - which is my choice - but look at us we are trying to start our own club now because we feel that is important to us - would never have been at that stage without parkrun tbh *rolls eyes*
Love the comments on the article though :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Anecdotal evidence suggests that running club membership is up as a result of parkrun. Club officials posting in reply to the article say they have recruited many new members. I would like to see some figures on the trend in membership numbers over the last few years (yes i know that makes me a sad case).Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
OK, I make it 6 members for the "real world" runclub/site. How many do we need before we actually go ahead with it? 10 members?
What kind of funds do we need to set this up?
£50 club affiliation cost
£30-40ish web hosting and domain registration*
£5 individual runner registration.
So that would make it £14 for 10 people.
Just a suggestion, but assuming we want it to be a non-profit club, any left-over funds from additional members can go into a club reserve. Any revenue the site makes from advertising/affiliate links can also go into that. We can then decide whether to take this money off future years' fees or to help subsidise events.
*assuming a decent ad-free service, as well as .co.uk and .com domain registration.
We would also need people to put themselves forward for various roles within the club. We'd need at least a president and a treasurer.
I seem to remember us talking about this way back. Let's make it happen this time!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Actually web hosting may be free
Relax I am working on it - want to hear everyone's opinions first
(glad you are keen though)

Good news about hosting if you can sort it. An ad-free service with several SQL Databases would be best if possible. I'll let you come back with your suggestion first, though!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
