Okay!
It's a great warm up for the big day, especially with the start and finish being in the same place as the marathon on April 11th.
Although we've got the easy job that day - while the race is going on Becky will be doing a 25 miler around Blackpool.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Shhhhh dont tell anoyone about the 25 miler!!! Hoping to get some of the fleetwood parts of the course in possibly - need to map that this weekend
I've seen those old style threads Marru - I think all that is done by hand (snooooooore).
What I really want is a place where we can post our ongoing training diaries so that others can peak in at our stuff and see how what we are training relates to what we are racing - to really emphasise the point of consistency = results you see.
Yes I dont want to lose newbies either though...hmmm its a tough one!
Glad to hear you are enjoying the running thoughDont worry about leagues - we're all at different stages of running here and we can all remember being a beginner!
Hi Julie - welcome to threadI hope you do get along to parkrun at some point! Its a great event, although I've heard glasgow is hilly so dont expect it to be a pb course
Mascott - I know what you mean - Rich's paces are amazing - I do feel unwell just thinking about sub 6 minute miling :eek:
KYCU - great news about the place and well see you next week
I am feeling much less stiff today so made the right decision to rest(ish) last night - going ot for a nice longish one tonight instead :cool:0 -
I get to meet strange people off the t'internet wohoo. How come your doing a 25 miler I thought people didnt do more than 22 due to recovery stuff. My achillies have been playing up since the race so I have been taking it easy. I wonder if its my new sorbs as these are double strikes not full so they are more moulded and have a heel where as the fulls are flat. Might have to swop round with my work shoes. Well at least its happened more or less in taper time, I guess i'll just do some tick over mileage.
I only entered the GNR because I was after a free mirror place I never dreamt I would be lucky(?) enough to get a main ballot place. Well tbh i'm not so sure its lucky :rotfl:. I'm going to be having nightmares about being passed by smoothies, rhino's and pantomine horses etc .
Best make sure I get a good summers training.:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0 -
Hi all, glad you are feeling better Rich and happy new shoes Becky
4 miles for me last night in 38:56 (9:45min/mile) - felt really good although it was seriously cold - had bright red legs when I got in! Feel a bit tight round the ankles/ lower calves today but I think that might be because last night's route was fairly flat and I'm still more used to hilly running? Trying to alternate it a bit more now.
It would be a shame to lose this thread for the chat and for newbies finding it - after all running can be one of the cheapest ways of exercising so it's very DFW-relevant. But I do think it would be good to have a resource of all the info so it's easy to find, and being able to see each other's training diaries at a glance would be fab.
Edit - would be happy to contribute too, have benefited so much from this thread.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -

You dont on your first build up but second time around (and further) you can push it a bit further if you want - its still far enough away from the marathon to recover even if I hit the wall - I may not complete the distance anyway - its only an attempt0 -
Morning all, sneaking in carefully so as not to make an sound!
Feeling rotten today, had 2 rest days due to lots going on at home then all ready to go out yesterday but had an awful pain in my chest. Think it's heartburn but feels terrible, still a bit sore and now seem to have earache too. DH has a stinking cold so trying to keep away. Luckily teaching changed from today until tomorrow afternoon so I can rest a bit. Hope to be back out tomorrow, getting itch feet already.
Well done linda and kycu on your GNR places, well done everyone with your training.
I think a seperate site for us would be great, we could really manage it well and add loads more information. I would be quite happy to contribute some funds when needed, if you need any support r.e. website hosting my DH has his own site and seems to be a bit of a whizz on the technical side.0 -

Hiya!
Second run last night this year. Went with the group, which was ok. First mile was uphill and I'm not too keen on that. So was with the last two girls. Not a big group anyway, maybe 8 alltogether. It was dead on 4mile route, mostly flat and where I run anyway. They started off much faster than I would've and uphill went faster as well, without the other two I would've just plodded it up, so from that point of view, it was good. But the girls weren't very prepared for crossing roads at good time, they just ran straight up to where they needed to cross and then started looking for cars, and I hate stopping when I'm running cos around where we run, there's no real need if you anticipate your crossings.
Anyway, was quite pleased and would probably go with them again. I need to map my last weeks run now as well, cos I think it'll be under 4mi. Will come and update when I've done that.

Well done squizz, that's brilliant work amazing how the times drop within just a few months!
Good running tirlttan.0 -
Well done, Red - thats just what we like to see, consistent effort developing solidly improved fitness! Good stuff.:D
Evab - That itchy feet feeling is great. It shows that you've now got a body that WANTS to run. But you did prove that you were the fittest you have ever been 4 days ago so a bit of downtime is no big deal....
I think the main reason for a separate arena is that some of us ( and in truth, most of us) are stats junkies. We like to see a performance/training run in the context of what has gone before and it is difficult to do that with more than a handful of people as we are at the moment.
You can learn so much from analysing training diaries to see how someone got from A to B with their training (as Becky says).Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
