Tonight was just a little spin to see if I'm still in working order.
I picked up a virus about last Saturday but, due to not running on Saturday, I didnt get the usual warning sign of an elevated pulse.
By then racing hard on Sunday with a virus in the system it got its chance to take hold when the immune system was busy doing its repair work.
So for the last two days I have had a throat infection which is an absolute no-no in terms of running. But looking okay again now.....:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I know - but my trusty little army of white blood cells saw it off!:D:D
Just going back to that subject this morning re trying to restrict calorie intake to ridiculous levels. This is the latest post from someone who has been there:
'just to let you know. i originally started posting here in 2005 on a slightly greedier diet than you. i was eating about 600 cals... i know - fattie you say.
but anyway, three months of those 600 led me to: 8 mths in hospital with anorexia. my bmi dropping to 14 and 5 years on and my relationship with food is still not normal. honestly - some days, mentally, things are so bad, suicide is a real option of relief.'
She doesnt even say that she was running during this period.
Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition.......the body wants it, needs it and performs if given it. Deny it and it starts to shut down.
Love exercise, love food....and all will be well!!!!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Okay so as much as I like it on here, I've been having thoughts for some time about the suitability of a running club on MSE...
I wonder would other members perhaps like to canvas their thoughts about the possibility of decamping the run club somewhere else (not another forum exactly more a specific small site just for us).
Pros - we can talk about running without getting in the way
we can use different software that allows more tabled postings - so we can post up our training plans for example to show people the concepts behind them
Cons - we wont get newbies from here anymore and we may become insular
- we will have to organise all the technical side and find a way of making it happen
Feel free to add to the list - its just some thoughts for now, but I do feel there is a wealth of advice hidden in the linear format of the thread that could be drawn out better on another site, I'm also unsure if the run club is big enough to be self sustaining...0 -
As we have said before, most topics have been covered at some point during the 4 threads....but we only ever have a vague idea where.
The concept of 'reading the thread to familiarise yourself' for newbies is no longer an option due to the length (unless you're called Simply) so indexed info would be far more suitable and would add 'depth' over time.
It is questionable whether there is sustainable size but the nucleus is there for the orginal concept of a fully affiliated online running club with no geographic boundaries.
I, too, would be interested to hear other's views ......Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Well I was thinking more informal for now...but yes if you wanted to go down the affiliated route then it would be possible in terms of becoming a club and also getting our members EA membership plus that would give us one LM place a year to dole out...
The EA membership is £5 is believe, but I suspect other costs would be minimal so the only big job would be indexing the information - I suspect this can be done with the right semantic software so again may not be expensive...I think we could keep it almost cost neutral (except for admin time) and I was thinking of each of the core members being an 'admin' rather than having the workload on one or two people0 -

The annual affiliation cost for a club is £50, so 10 people would have to put in roughly £10 pa (£5 club + £5 individual) - which at the moment would be cost neutral if entering 5 races during the year.
The LM place could create some nice excitement on the WAVA table if the place was allocated to the highest person in the table who both wanted it AND didnt have a place via any other means. I wouldnt be in the reckoning for a start.
Indexing info can be done slowly over time.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Well I think it can be done automatically actually but I need to confirm that - its to do with googling indexing of the site you see which as we both know is excellent...
Ah okay you see thats quite a lot but cost neutral after 5 races = not too bad...but if we go down the club route we also need a bank account for banking that money...then it starts to get complicated!
Which is why I was thinking more of what we have now but hosted somewhere else with an extensive archive - actually would have to re-write the posts anyway due to copyright - would need to check with MSE towers about that - dont want to break rules0
