Think i've lost it, i am slow, tired, and lost my passion for healthy food. eek, maybe i'm gonna eat my 6 stone back on!!!0 -
morning all, heading out the door at 10 for a 5 miler, this is assuming I can get my saggy fat cat to get off my lap. Nice and easy this morning as have Porridge Pot or Bust next sunday.
Am feeling not too bad after 2 hrs of kickboxing last night (feet are slightly sore but think that was TKD on wed and all the turning kicks):DProud to be dealing with my debt:eek:
TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D0 -
Morning all! 3.7 miles hilly in 39:11 last night (10:41/mile) - chose a particularly steep route and some of the uphill bits were a real struggle but I'm pretty pleased with it over all.
Going for 8 miles tomorrow :j
ps I've thought about trying the British Military classes but a friend of OH's does them and they do sound sort of fun, but a bit too 'hands on' - I have no desire to be lifted up and carried about by other people or vice versa! I am scared of going through tunnels too and fear that might be involved at some point :eek:Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Running club night again tonight for me :T
I think I may have overdone it a bit on Wednesday. Having not run for about 5 weeks I ran my first with the club (4 miles) on Monday and felt fine.
On Wednesday there was a choice of 6 or 8 miles so I went for the 8 mile one, keen to get back into my stride. I managed it, there were a few very long hills in there which I really had to push on because I knew if I stopped I wouldn't get going again if I did.
When I got home I felt a bit light headed and shaky, thought I was just hungry so I had my steamed fish & scrambled eggs
After I felt freezing cold, shivery, clammy, weak and exhausted. had to just go to bed, I didn't warm up for AGES, my hands and feet were like blocks of ice.
Think I did the 8 mile route too soon
Taking it easy tonight with a gentle one me thinks.
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Linda - I sometimes get that after long runs - you will get a good period of adaptation from it though but take it easy for a little while
Well done on getting through it though0 -
Thanks Becky,
I felt really good for doing it so soon back into my training but suffered for it on Wednesday night and yesterday.

Anybody listened to marathon talk this week yet?
It was interesting listening to the talks re what people do in the bad weather to keep training. Clearly treadmills were a big part of the conversation. Of particular note was that Alistair Brownlee, who says that if he cant get out to run because of the snow he'll put his hiking boots on and go for a good walk rather than go anywhere near a treadmill.
If its good enough for a world champion its good enough for me!:D
On the same theme they were discussing the value of running on snow and the fact that although you may be going slower you're probably getting more value out of each run....just as we were saying on here last week. (Are they taking a peek at our thread?:p).
We did notice (or rather Becky did) that those people who kept piling in the miles through the snow, almost without exception were reporting blistering training runs last weekend as the conditions cleared, especially the 20 milers that were getting knocked out.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Linda - runs sometimes go well, sometimes they dont...just draw a line under it and move on.
However, if you're doing a good few miles you need to get some carbs in your system afterwards. Fish/protein is great for the muscle repair but wont do much for replenishing your enegy levels.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

What's marathon talk? I seem to have missed that. Good to hear of the recommendation re walking rather than treadmills - I have considered going to the gym a few times when it's been snowy but really don't like treadmills. Good to hear that all the stomping about in the snow instead will have done me some good!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Here you go:

Interesting hearing Tony Audenshaw (Bob from Emmerdale) talking about his first marathon being 4:24. He has since got that down to 2:58:39.
Very similar to my own experience so if anybody thinks they wont improve much from their first marathon the evidence suggests you will almost certainly be able to improve by 1 hr 30 mins with consistent training...:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
