I've been on an adventure todayI decided that as I have been running the same routes over and over again it was time to map a new one. I knew the route would be hillier than my usual runs but what I didn't bank on was the footpath ending just after mile 5. :rotfl: The road was too busy to run on so I had to retrace my steps - back over the hills I had just tackled.
The 10 miles of hills combined with stopping to cross busy roads took it's toll and my right hip started niggling again, I carried on for as long as I could (getting slower and slower) but had to stop when my calf cramped up again. Still I got further than last week so I'm reasonably happy - I've got 20 scheduled for next Sunday so that will be interesting.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Sounds.. hilly, Simply! Hope your twinges ease off soon.
Just checked my training plan and I should be doing 8 miles this weekend but I'm not sure I'm quite up to that yet as I'm a bit behind where I should be. Have an 8 mile route planned out though so I may head out, see how far I manage and walk the rest if need be.
Have good weekend runs everyoneDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
I wouldnt worry Simply sounds like a good session there
You have plenty of time to get back up to the 20s anyway no point making the hip worse for a few extra miles at the moment!
Red - good luck on the run - you never know you might surprise yourself - just take it easy0 -
That's what I thought Becky and I realised after I'd posted that it's only 5 days since I aborted at 6 miles.
Annoyingly my hip was fine but I felt it twinge when I bent down to put something in a cupboard this morning - OMG it's old age!!!!!
:rotfl:
Thanks red I'm just not good at being patientHope your run goes well - as Becky says you might be pleasantly surprised and if not you get a nice walk as a cool down.

Simply - I think the fact that you managed to get through that shows how well your body is repairing. As you say, last Sunday you wouldnt have put a price on managing that sort of distance a few days later. Again, just let it catch up with itself...you'll be fine.
And have a look at the 70 and 75 year old runners' performances in the parkruns each week before you start claiming old age!!;)
Idio - Good luck tomorrow. I take it you have to eat the puddings on the start line? It cant be called a pudding run unless the pudding actually does the run, surely?:p
There's a bit of a story developing around one of our best hopes for the 1500m at the 2012 Olympics. He's disappeared into thin air with the suspicion that the combined pressure of working full time and preparing for that level of competition has proved too much:

Then again, he may well turn up safe and sound after a 2 week drinking binge!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
