  • I got one of these free through ParkRun - I still have never made it work! i bought a little holder that holds the foot pod on top of your laces, but I still can't get the bloomin' thing to record. I must say, I probably need to go through all the trouble shooting option on the help site - but wasn't impressed. Think you could buy a basic sports watch for far less. Steve and Becky use a nice small simple watch - much more comfortable than my clumpy Garmin!

Ok OK, I admit I'm a wuss with my wet feet! I'll just get used to it. Waterproof socks sound a bit weird! i'll see how much.

I'm not swanky - just tight with my money, I'd never pay to get into a show if I could away with free!

Didn't run this morning, going to regret it tonight when I have to turn out!

I can feel Rich swooning from here :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

KYCU - one of the many reasons I wear contacts - glasses + rain =:mad::mad:, can you get some daily ones for running in? You can buy them in bulk and they are cheapish :D

I'd hate to wear glasses for running, rain or not. I wear contacts almost all of the time and wouldn't want to part with them.

Well I used to wear them years ago but I was only allowed to wear them for 8hrs which was pointless in the end.
The other thing is I bought a nice pair of oakley prescription sunglasses (you really dont want to know how much they were :o) this year and I absolutely love running in those but they would be useless if I wore contacts. Besides I would forget to take them out when I'm drunk and its a !!!!!! ripping them off your eyeball in a morning. I used to wake up and think oh carp I can see :rotfl:

I think you can get used to almost anything. Before I got my first contacts in 1998, I used to do lots of sports and riding with my glasses and it never much bothered me. Nowadays, I wouldn't dream of doing sports without my contacts unless I really had to.

You know you can get much better ones now - all day all night ones with a semi permeable surface so you can wear them for 6 days at a time!!! I used to have those but becasue I wear mine 7 days a week I switched to dailys which are better for me :D

You can get once that you can wear for the whole month without taking them off. Depends obviously if they suit your eyes or not. I just have normal monthlies and wear them about 16hrs a day, almost everyday...When I last went for my check, they said I might want to get new glasses (old ones are about 8years old) so I would wear them more. :)

    Hi everyone,

Sorry to hear that a few people are unwell. Becky, it doesn't surprise me that you aren't well. When I saw you at the end of Sunday's race you looked so pale I thought something must have been wrong. Keep well wrapped up, I'm sure you'll be over it in no time.

I've been a busy bee this week. I've made a real effort to get out and I have felt the benefit of it. I did a 4.5-miler on Monday to loosen up my legs which were feeling stiff, then I went to the gym on Wednesday and had a half-hour on the treadmill. I would have run for longer but DS was bored waiting for me . Then last night I did about 6-ish. I'm averaging steady 9-minute miles now on shorter runs and I'm feeling stronger on hills than I used to, so hopefully if I can keep some consistency I'll see some speed improvements.

I found out last night that a friend from my running club did the Lancaster half in 1:37. It was her first ever half marathon! I know I should be pleased for her, and I am, but in another way it makes me sick! How come some people are so naturally fast?

On another subject, I wear glasses but last year I got some contact lenses just for running and going out. My prescription is a bit unusual so the lenses that are available don't come in my exact prescription. I can get by with 'close enough' when I'm running but they aren't good enough for detailed work.

By the way, I wore my £15 Aldi running jacket on Monday evening - it was really chilly here and it was great! Bargain!

If it makes you feel any better I felt like that about your run on Sunday :rotfl::rotfl:

Maybe, but I was a long way short of 1:37! You were just a few minutes behind me and coming down with a lurgy.
