hello! Just back from my run!
It conveniently stopped raining just before I left work, so I got quickly home, changed and was off. For some reason, the first mile was really difficult and on the second mile I had a stich. So I concentrated on my breathing and suddenly, I had this really good rythm going on, which made me run faster, but it felt so good! Shaved another 50seconds off my last run without really trying. Pleased. And I'm not really even trying to get the time down atm.

but who here has winter/trail running shoes? Hit a fair amount of mud yesterday and was slipping around something chronic...The main thing I'm interested in is just whether anyone's found a significant difference in performance between specialist mud-grippers and just regular runners...
Hey I'm not a city runner!, a northern rural runner more like. I have a pair of salomon XD pro ultras for the trails and asics road shoes, I never wear my road shoes on the trail as I do notice the difference, you still slide about a bit in the mus but not as much as I would if I wore my road shoesAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -
quick one from me, sorry still not had chance to read through all posts, things crazy at mo, roll on Dec when majority of work out the way :-)
Thanks for comments and suggestions Becky - your plan sounds much less complicated so may mix it up a bit but will follow your guidelines. Quick question- what runs should I do week before 10km? guessing don't need to taper, but should I still do tempo run etc?
Ran this morning but had bad night with sore throat (not in chest-yet!!!) Aimed for 6 miles, but couldn't face final loop so headed home. 5.07miles (10.05/mile)
A crazy weekend but hopefully quieter sun eve so will try and catch up then.(Family of 5: 2 adults & 3 children aged 7yrs, 4yrs, and 18months)0 -
Shoes is interesting talk. I hate the way my feet get soaked in my asics. I don't mind being wet, but the soggy socks in my shoes I hate. Can you get waterproof running shoes for the winter?
hannah, you're doing amazing- I find you quite an inspiration, I'm just scared you'll permanently break the 10 minute mile barrier before me!
New York - wish there was a half. Don't think I could do a whole marathon by next September - could I? What's the score with entry? Do you have to sell your soul to a charity? I'm being nagged to find nice 1/2 marathons or 10k's around europe, my hubby thinks it's the best excuse to travel now!
New York sounds really interesting. hmm. so tempted! Anyone done it before?
I'm waiting for my new headlamp to arrive, I keep nearly tripping, and I'm told it's really worth having one.
Last question! Anyone going to the London Running show?0 -

It often takes me a couple of miles to find 'my pace' and then my breathing and steps are perfectly in sync, I relax and get into a good rhythm and start to enjoy my run, I zone out and my brain starts to wander which I find very relaxing.
... Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Tq - the week before just do a couple of nice slow 4 milers or so - you still need to taper to keep your legs fresh for the race (tigger legs
)
B.J. - there is a half, but its in August and its ruddy hot! The full is the first weekend in November. Entry is the same as London - lottery/ballot or charity place - the ballot is open now so if you want to do it enter asap - its dead expensive and dont forget flights etc, its also not flat but my NY friends loved it so I thought it would be worth entering the ballot on the off chance I got in but sadly they only take credit cards so I'll leave I think!0 -
My LED headtorch arrived today, it's not on a headband, it just clips onto my visor that I always wear because I hate it when my hair gets in my face.
It's really good (mine has 5 LEDS and can be either on or flashing!)
