the landshare site looks a good idea in theory, but as its not actually my house, and belongs to the local housing authority, not sure if it would be allowed.

Hi all. Please forgive me for not posting on here at all today; we've been so so busy that I've only just sat down.
I'll catch up with everyone tomorrow but just wanted to wish a safe trip to Chalky for tomorrow.
Lots of (((hugs))) to you all.

Good morning everyone.
Chalky - have a great flight and a wonderful time back in the UK. Bon voyage!
DPixie - good luck with the French lessons! I am learning fast here, having been faced with many challenges over the last twelve months! Even DH, who was convinced he would find it difficult, is pretty good when he needs to be! Having my nephew around last week has really helped a lot. He is fluent in French now having been here for three years and I was able to make good use of him as a tutor, especially when it came to the accent. I love the name Alessandro, by the way! As for how much all this work on the house is costing - yep, it's a not-so-small fortune! Things are more expensive here than in the UK which doesn't help (I really must stop comparing prices but I can't help it!), but we just have to grin and bear it. Furniture-wise, we have been able to get more and more stuff out of storage which has been great. I have a lot of pine furniture which my DH has made over the years and it goes so well in this house. I was especially pleased to get my Welsh dresser out - I have a lot of blue and white china to go on it but I haven't got time to get it unpacked so I shall have to compromise with a spare dinner service instead to pretty it up. I intend to make a sort of garland (Attic 24-style) in blue and white at some point but that, too will have to wait! My to-do list never ends!
Sockknitter - glad that DS was able to get his bike out! Enjoy today with them both at school!
Jean - I do hope you will rest up when you are back in the UK (apart from the time when you drag your sister around Hobbycraft!). You have worked heroically these last few weeks.
Mrs Moneypenny - I know you must be disappointed that the sale is further away but it gives me time to make a few things once things have calmed down a bit here!
Maytaurus - I hope you are OK?
Well, it's been all systems go this week trying to get the house free of renovating dust for DS2, DIL and little Summer who arrive tomorrow. We've both worked flat out - of course, there's still a lot more to do because this house really is an ongoing work-in-progress, but anything else will have to wait. We just want to take next week as easy as possible and simply enjoy having family around. It's only now that it has sunk in that they are actually coming here! I know I shall worry about DS2 driving down from Caen - about four and a half hours on the road - but he's a good driver and has driven in Europe before, so I shall try not to worry too much. The roads are so much quieter here, even the motorways, and it's a nice drive, so I hope they enjoy it.
Sadly, I've barely been near my wool this last week. I managed a few more rows of a crochet bootie that I'm making for Summer but there's no way the pair will be ready for her tomorrow so I shall put them on hold and carry on with some squares for Chalky and some for Mrs Twins - that way I can be doing something useful but not having to concentrate too hard!
I shall have to do a mega shop today foodwise and make some sort of meal plan. DS2 has said he wants genuine French cooking! Well, all the food will be French but I'm not so sure about the meals. We have been known to have sausage, egg and chips on more than one occasion! We'll go out for dinner a couple of times, anyway - we have a newly-opened restaurant in our local village that we haven't tried since it changed hands.
Anyway, I'd better go and put the kettle on - again! I'm nearly out of good old British tea - it's on DS2's shopping list so I hope he doesn't forget!
Have a great day, everyone.

morning all
kathy, thanks for the good wishes with the french. as i didn't have the opportunity of doing french at school, i am rather new at it, however, every time we go to france, i take my little notebook everywhere and write down words i dont know and either look them up when we get home or get someone to explain them to me. i can hold a conversation, but my grammar is rubbish. however, i am learning and improving. the good thing about my french classes is that my teacher lived (and his family still do live) in our local village. his sister has helped me with a few things (like deciding which broadband to go for), now all i need to do is order it etc, but i am going to need help with that.
anyway, i have been working on another oxfam jumper (i have decided to send all of the ones that i have in stock to algerian action) which i will post with all the others that i have when it is finished. i am trying to get rid of all the "clutter" here in the flat as we have decided that we will probably be spending more time in france from about july/august this year. we will have to go to south africa for my baby brothers wedding (what a hardship), so i will take any squares/jumpers etc that i have made with me when i go.
anyway, its clearly early and i am waffling.
have a lovely day everyone, and chalky, look in your inbox for PMs when you get a chance.
enjoy the sun

Hi
Started a little sleeveless top for one of the new church babes :-)
Off to remove my grey in a moment lol :-)
My dad had a TIA yesterday :-( He's not too brill, but his BP is down, so that's good. All he wants to do is sleep. This is another one of several that he's been having over the last year or so.The next 48hrs are crucial, as very often he follows on with a smaller TIA, and he's is now getting to the stage where his body can't really take many more :-(
Have a blessed an prosperous day. Hugs to all in need. ((((hugs)))) Love you all.
xA work in progress0 -
Salome - thinking of you and your Dad, and sending (((hugs))).
